MY CHARLOTTE - a production blog

lol. What would you like?

The whole experience, of course.

I have been following your production blog carefully, charmed by your well-followed passion, and I sense that a greatness is about to rise!

But since that is still a work in progress, I believe that seeing a few stills would be great.

And, the Hollywood Bowl you said? My friend, I wanna hear more!

Okay I will post one a day for a few days. Note that these are pre color correction or special effects, so please no comments about "darkness" or "saturation" etc. Cheers!

OOPS- I'm a little behind...here is today's image!

Haha, barely noticeable! and... who is it hiding there in the far left? LOOKS LIKE A SPY!

I wonder what was going on there in the film!

:)

Also, I plan to conduct a few of my film score suites on the Hollywood Bowl in the future. Will I see you there?

Well, I don't have my own cot there yet, but it IS pretty cool sneaking around shooting at the bowl!
This isn't one of the actual production shots....I will divulge those in the near future. No spies...no one cared that we were there...except for us!
Well when you DO conduct at the bowl, let me know! I can't wait to get back there!

This isn't one of the actual production shots....

Obviously not! I wouldn't even bother replying to you if it was, haha!

No spies...no one cared that we were there...except for us!
Wonderful! and you stayed there until the evening for night shots? perhaps filming a real/staged concert?

when you DO conduct at the bowl, let me know!
I definitely will, my friend, thank you. It will be a pleasure to have you there.

Have taken a few days off while we work on preproduction for a few things...that, and we bought some new gear which is always fun...for now here's Matthew and I on the bowl stage.

Ok, so I really am trying to get this edited. Of course when working on a passion product, the calls start coming in from clients. I am bogged down. I get up at 9 AM every day, and finish work around 11 PM. At that point, I can't concentrate enough to edit M.C. This next week I will be very busy, but am still shooting for a November finish. I will likely lock myself up for 2 weeks. I now have half of the opening titles in place. I didn't do anything crazy as it is a 5 minute short. I just made sure that it looks great.

It's been a couple of weeks since I've posted here and for good reason. But who cares why-let me just get back to it and save the whining for the quitters.
Today I had a hurdle to overcome. i was working in MOTION and for the last 3 editing sessions, I couldn't figure out how to get a particle emitter to tween the way I wanted it to ( what the hell is this guy talking about? ) Nevertheless, my extensive knowledge in Cubase of all things, helped me "trick" the program into doing it the long way (using hot keys thank God). So now the effects have officially started and so far I am pleased.

I'm sitting here rendering. In the background the movie "Android" is playing. It's awful, but I always have movies playing in the background when I edit. It helps me concentrate, and sometimes makes me think more creatively. I am finding ways of manipulating effects that I never thought I would ever for any reason use. I am hoping to get as much done as I can before I make it out to California again in December. I'm going to meet up with Matthew and maybe some of the crew again just to hang out.

Thanks. :) Right now I am trying to export a motion file ( I have created a particle emitter ), but it keeps coming out slightly "squashed" and I can't figure out why. 720/24p....hmmm....I usually stay away from motion as it makes me angry ( along with its ugly brother, soundtrack pro ), but in this case I really do need this emitter to work for the film. I held a gun to motion's head, but he's a stubborn bast**d, and won't give in. So I plod on....

By the way, if anyone IS using Motion, I highly recommend NOT trying to export a sequence by TIFF. I just accidentally did this and now my desktop is filled with files, my MacPro is in color wheel hell, and I'm just too scared to turn it off.

So I have perfected my emitter and as I am painstakingly altering the effect and light, I ask myself what kind of sounds these effects will make. I worked in a recording studio for years, and understand the importance of sound. Hell, I LOVE sound. Especially creating it. So I have decided in my mind what kinds of sounds I am going to insert, and yet another project where my VP 550 vocoder will come into play nicely. (what is this guy talking about?) So when I have picture lock, I get to play and tweak with synthesizers, wave editors, samplers, vocoders, and combine them in Logic. Like I have said in the past, I LOATHE Soundtrack Pro, and I am not a fan of pro tools either.
The part I am not looking forward to is colour correction. I have very little experience with it, so any quick tricks or tips are totally appreciated.

Today was a long day with motion and particle emitters. Working frame by frame with special effects is amazingly fun......ahem. Next project..NO special effects. NONE.
