ive done a few render outs with different formats from my hvx200 and ive noticed that wmv files are really crisp and smooth looking, my mpeg2 files seem noisier and softer and the colors bleed slightly, I use vegas with mainconcept mpeg2 encoder on the dvd setting the only thing i change is interlaced to progressive and 4:3 to 16:9, the wmv files however always look great the colors are strong its sharp and also smooth, i'll try to post some samples soon..

anybody else notice this?

I've always thought the wmv hd solution gave the best result. Really, no mpeg like artifacts. The wmvhd website has downloads of clips and they are the real deal.
I don't understand why Microsoft has not pushed this format harder in the market place.
I have to admit I have not seen a lot of Blu Ray, but the pc (for playback) is likely to be in more homes than Blu Ray players.

yeah probably, ive seen wmvHD videos also and they are amazing.. im not too fond of mpeg2, even though with pro encoders im sure u can get amaing results also.

WMV is more akin to mpeg4 than Mpeg2. So at the same bitrate, you are going to get a MUCH nicer file than with mpeg2.

If you compare an Mpeg4 render to a WMV render you'll get a more representative comparison.
