Great news for Canon users!

Yes I realize that. I was asking because I have a JVC 200 and someone mentioned earlier that they could test it out on one to see for me.

Excellent posts, Ecking! I was under the impression that you had to run tape to use the A1 controls. Glad to hear that's not so.

Another quick question, when you stop and start the record, does the MRC1K record new clips? Like, how does it decide to break clips into separate files?

Popsiclestand - the MRC1K does seperate and create new files as you stop and record, so once you stop that clip is done and a new file is created once you start recording again.

Thanks, pjayasee.

Right now I'm still waiting on my Sony L battery and CF cards. I had to order them on-line as no electronics stores in my area carry the l-series batteries and the cost of CF cards in Japan is outrageous! And we're not even talking about the Extreme IV or anything. The cost of ordering 2 16 gigs on ebay and having them shipped to Japan was less than buying one 8 gig in the store.

Anyway, I hate having new toys and not being able to play with them. :(

B&H now reporting it is in stock and it should be shipping tomorrow for me! Can't wait! Now I just need to get some bigger CF cards..

I also would like to comment on how ultra small this thing is. Unbelievable! I almost feel ripped off because it seems as if something this small and light shouldn't cost so much.

In case anyone is interested, from the manual, it looks 4.5 minutes/GB.

2GB - 9 min.
4GB - 18 min.
8GB - 36 min.
16GB - 72 min.
32GB - 144mins

CF speed of 133x or higher recommended.

Which brand/model CF cards have people been using with the unit?

I am curious about this as well. While I sit here waiting for my battery and CF cards to be delivered, Ecking, what speed CF cards do you use? I ordered 2 8gb 133x just to see how they would do. Seeing that Sony recommends at least 133x, I wonder what problems will be encountered by using this minimum.

I'm using sandisk extreme 3 cards because that's what I already had at my disposal. And I've tried 233x acumem cf cards with no problem as well. That said I've got a buddy who's successfully used cheapie 32gig trancend cards with it but some people off dvinfo have reported drop outs on those. I haven't seen the guy in a while so I haven't been able to confirm it visually which has stopped me from buying one of those cards.

Ah, thanks a bunch! I got those cheapo Transcends too. I'll do a search for it at DVInfo. My next card (32gb) will be at least 233x then -- for safety.

Just got the CF cards, battery, and charger in the mail today! This thing works flawlessly. Thanks Ecking for the instructions...took like two minutes to setup. I must say that, for the little bit of testing I got in, the 133x 8gb Transcend cards work very nicely. The download from the MRCK1 itself took no more than 10 seconds for two clips. Imported them into Adobe Premiere and bang...working like I'd pulled it off of tape. Audio was great!

Probably my longest wait was Adobe Premiere conforming the m2t files -- which I deal with when pulling off of tape anyway. I can't wait to test this in the field! This maybe one of the best investments ever. Wonder why something so simple took so long to become viable.

Just ordered mine yesterday. I am assuming it comes with a battery. How long does that last? Is another battery recommended? How long to charge the existing one? Does it come with any cards at all? What is the best bet? a couple of 16gb? Thanks.

I recommend going to ebay for non oem batts and charger. my np-f730 was like $17. Charger was $10.

No cards come with this thing either. After having ordered two 8 gigs. I recommend 16+. I can see these 8gb getting aggravating because of the short record time.

For anyone wanting to know the exact process of making it work with the A1 here it is:
<snip>
That's all there is to it. Once it's set once you don't need to do it again. Just connect the two and turn the MRC1K and you're ready to go.
I may to a little youtube vid about it or something.

This is a fabulous idea that many people have been waiting for, for a long time.

Ecking, can you tell us the format the files are in on your NLE. It's Mpeg2, right?

Is it 4.2.2 color? 1920 or 1440? etc.

Thanks,
Duke
