BlueRidge Pictures Presents "Daily Special"

totally sick! i liked it a lot! what does that say about me?

the beginning is maybe a bit too long since i was hoping for an arbitrary beach ball to roll on in or a sick and sadistic homicidal maniac to storm through the place! i was real happy to see that happen!

the twist is cool and i liked how you filmed it too.

maybe this is in the thread already but what did your actors say when you showed them the script? that must've been priceless... great work!

Cool story and definitely kept me interested. I think the camera work could have used some work as soon as the robber came into the story. it was an abrupt switch from stabilized to handheld camera. Overall good film though!

Thanks Hoz! They were pretty excited when I showed them the script, especially Adrienne, she's got the best line.

Hey,

Just caught the flick. I really enjoyed this piece. I thought the story worked and your structure for it was really fun. Completely and totally out of left field. I like that you didn't set up the way it was gonna end, like we were just watching three old ladies run through their daily routine.

The story worked for me but I thought it needed more. We don't know the point of the daily special and I think the could have helped. Was it something that keeps you youthful? Was it the tastiest thing in the world? I just felt like the beginning with the cards and the gas and all of that seemed a bit tangential. There MIGHT have been some indication of them being older than they looked (talking about the time before cars, etc.) but that was still a bit ambiguous. The writing, in that sense, could have been tighter.

I also would have liked some slightly higher production value. Maybe different shots and more of them. But I thought the actors were great and it looked like they threw themselves into the roles, which is just great. Up the production value and I think this, and any of your future pieces, will be very strong. But thanks for sharing. I enjoyed this and was thoroughly entertained.

Thanks for the feedback Danielleus. Yeah, that's what I was going for when Barbara says, "We didn't use to have to drive here and there."

My ultimate goal with that was to do a quick green screen shot after the credits with the three of them flying on broomsticks. But we didn't have the resources to pull it off.

cheers,
Jon

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah it is an abrupt switch, and I think it kind of worked. What we were going for was to totally change the pacing and mood of the short up to that point. I think Mike did a great job as DP, but I think we might have achieved the same feeling if we kept the camera locked down. Thanks for the feedback.

best,

Jon
