FIle format to somebody without FCP?

I want to shoot footage on P2 cards, then offload using FCP by converting to a format that somebody without FCP can open right away. If i save as Quicktime, that won't work, will it, because of the codec? What else can I do?

Blackmagic makes a 10bit codec that works well for those who have not been assimilated into the apple collective.

You can download it for free from their website.

Going to h.264 is both time consuming and compresses the footage into a delivery format, not an editing format. I don't recommend it.

One question I have is what the "somebody without FCP" will do with the footage?

Edit it? Watch edit?

That may affect the recommendations.

Give them the full card file structure...if they want to use it to edit. Avid imports this footage natively (Avid 2.8 and up)...Vegas just needs a plugin, Raylight. Premiere CS4 is native, CS3 native I believe...Edius native.

View? Like a producer? yeah, many options for that.

Can someone send me an apple quicktime file in pro res, to see what my PC can do with it.
I believe it can be edited with premiere cs3 or cs4 (I have cs4), if you have quicktime 7.5.5,
which I do.

IF there is a clip I can download, I can let you know, how my system deals with it.
