Calls From The Führerbunker

A lot of people keep knocking the score, but I LOVE the Theremin... so rarely does it get used in movies anymore (the most recent I can recall is the Christian Bale movie, The Machinist). I dig it...it's a great throwback to Twilight Zone!

Your film was very good, one of the top contenders. Good luck!
Thanks!

I knew it! Elvis is still alive!

I must admit, the first time i watched I didn't really get it, but that's because it was what-40th or 50th in a row+I had opened tons of programs and tabs and got bugged by MSN/Skype/Random peoples so I misheard some things and thus said to myself to rewatch it again, in normaln cirmustances.

Well, now they were normal and I really enjoyed it. One thing though, I don't get that part in toilet when Fegel bumps into guard. Was that scene just there, or it did had some meaning? Somehow I got the feeling that scene is too long to be just 'some' sccene, or it's just too short to be meaningful for the story.

Or is it cameo appearance of someone of the film crew? (or I'm as usually getting unnecessary headache)

I liked that facial expressions, they made it look more realistic. The ending is perfect-no need to exaggerate, and I just didn't find the music all-way satisfying. Not that it's bad or anything, I just didn't 'get her', but this film does not depend on the music itself. so it's really not that important.

Heil Elvis! :D
Glad you took the time to watch it properly. I watch every movie with full attention, as you should with any movie. I put on the headphones and drink it in.

The guard has a much longer role that you will see in the Director's Cut. Still, a guard in a military base, go figure. :)

Glad you liked the acting and thought that the ending was perfect, that helps.

Cheers,

Mike

Although, I think I can count on 3 or 4 fingers who disliked the score. Not bad when compared to all the people who loved it, yourself included.

Yes, it was purposely done by Herman to represent the theme that we were so obviously going for. Very old school Sci-Fi/TZ.

A little bit about the theremin and the Twilight Zone. Taken from "The Twilight Zone: The 40th Anniversary Collection".

The third disc features music from composer Nathan Van Cleave, and starts out with one of the most famous of all "Twilight Zone" episodes: "Perchance to Dream". Utilizing electronic instruments, including a theremin, Van Cleave provides adequate suspense and rising fear in this classic story about a man afraid to fall asleep.
Cheers,

Mike

I think I've seen a fair share of your work, Micheal. I think I said this exact same thing in the last fest as well.. but this is your strongest piece yet. What I like about you is that with each fest, I see definite improvement and more precision in your films. Great location here, good acting and a very interesting concept. I got a little bit of a chill at the end when the actor starting putting all the pieces together. Nicely done. I'm officially excited to see what you come up with next.

Geoff! I was wondering if you were going to show up this Fest. :)

I think I said this to you last Fest as well, I'm a huge fan of yours.

I'm really trying to learn and grow every fest. It's tough, but I'm trying. I'm getting more confident with the camera (HV20) and trying new things. I love controlling all aspects of my work. I may be a one man crew but I'm determined to improve nonetheless.

I love the fact that the ending gave you chills. My wife said the same thing but I'm less inclined to believe her. :)

Thanks so much for dropping by. Always a pleasure!!

Cheers,

Mike

Loved the scenes. Location rocked. Good story. The old guy with the name tag gave the payoff.

No probs I can think of as far as overall entertainment goes.

Worked for me.
Well done.

A true story!

Germany, Berlin, 6th November 2008, 2.30 am, 500 meters from the Ex-Führerbunker, in a small wood on the area of the old Anhalter Bahnhof, an important railway station which was destroyed in the Second World War. A German-English couple, Susanne and Jason, who live more by night than by day, take their late night walk with Rufus, their Golden Retriever. It is one of those damp, hazy and grey nights, not one star in the sky, no wind – it is difficult to breathe. The only noise comes from leaves which fall from the trees at this time of the year. Usually there is nobody in the wood at this hour, only the fox sometimes crosses the footpath hunting rabbits for his dinner. After the first half circuit of the wood, Jason notices a red light in the middle of the trees. Both are very curious. They start to go nearer to this light, crossing a little wooden bridge and taking a raised wooden walk-way to go nearer still. At a distance of three meters they can see that it is the light of a red candle in front of a little birch tree, but nobody is there! They decide to continue their walk. On their second circuit they come back to the same point, the candle is still alight, but still there is nobody. Who put the candle there? Was it the ghost of a soldier who died there in the war and whose soul never found peace? Who knows?

Very cool. Do some sleuthing and get the back story on that candle.

Great job Michael! This one looked, felt, and sounded like a classic twilight zone episode. I liked the story and the actors did a really good job, especially "Andrew Shoe", even though he only had the one scene. The locations were awesome as well. I really liked the shot where you incorporated the ball. I really don't know what else to say but great job!

That was great. Felt like an old school twilight zone joint. I was so engrossed with the location too. It took me a sec after the flick ended to get that the old guy was the one being spoken to. Good Job.

Thanks, man! I'll pass on the acting kudos as well. Glad you loved it.

That's awesome! Exactly what I was going for. :)

Heh, I basically said the same thing he just did. :P

Seems like many of the reviews are very similar. I'll take that as a good thing.

Cheers,

Mike

Johni Keyworth (Andrew Shoe AKA you know who) wanted me to mention that he has read this thread since the reviews started pouring in and wants to thank everyone who took the time to comment on his performance.

So, from Johni to you....

THANK YOU!

He was very humbled by all the praise.

Cheers,

Mike

Hell yeah! He's awesome in that opening scene!

Looks like The Watchman & CFTFB have both been accepted to a local Film Festival coming up later this month.
I'm going to try and get the entire cast from each film to show up. Should be a lot of fun!

Pretty excited about seeing both of these films in front of a live audience. :)
Hopefully the reactions will be good.

Cheers,

Mike

Hey Mike,

Just watched it again. I believe I'm on the 17th round of Fuhrerbunker now. It's one of a few films that is preventing me from watching the rest of the entries, I just keep going back and watching a select few.

Anyway I've given you my compliments (ie: musical score, etc.) and my critiques (ie: low volume in some places) previously. Just wanted to say another job well done, and thanks for making another great film for us to enjoy.

Cheers:beer:,
