Is this a good tripod for the xh a1??

The head is good. I wouldn't trust the legs. I mean if you're on a budget, the 501HDV isn't bad...but seriously, I wouldn't order from a place called Bargain Camera.

If what you want is to keep the camera from falling to the ground, it should work. If you want anything resembling a smooth pan or tilt... I don't think so.

In the same price range, Libec probably offer a better package. Something most would consider a "good" tripod will weigh in starting at nearly US$2,000 for starters.

A tripod is something you should increase the spend on. A really good one could outlive your A1.

What would you consider a good one?

The head is good. A VERY popular one for cameras in this size/price range.
That tripod looks like a no-name piece of junk, though.
Also, that company seems a little weird. Check reseller ratings.

The company looks fishy. I have the 501HDV head for my XH-A1 and its super smooth. I even use it with my Letus Extreme with good results. Its wobbly if the head is raised, but if just the legs are adjusted its perfectly stable. I do have some basic Manfrotto legs too though.

What would you consider a good one?

I have a Cartoni Focus and I would consider that a minimum. Vinten Vision, Sachtler, Miller and Gitzo have sticks that get good notices. Remember that US$2,000 is the price floor for high quality tripods.

Manfrotto make quality products, but I think you will ultimately be disappointed with 501/503 heads. There's lots of really good information at DV Info under the camera support section.

I've never tried a high end tripod head before.

With that said, for my application, which is weddings and events, I find the 503 is adequate. I've used 501 and 501HDVs and wouldn't go anything less than 503.

I too will place a vote behind the Cartoni Focus.
