Printer with CD/DVD tray that works with MAC

I have a MacBook Pro. I want to purchase a printer that can print on CD/DVD's for labeling. I've looked around for awhile. Looking at the Epson the Canon's and even one of the HP's.

Anyone here with a MAC have one that works well with their computer? I hear that the Epson models use a lot of ink and the ink is expensive. I hear that the HP's have a problem working on the MAC's .

Any suggestions and insite would be greeat. I've been looking around for awhile and now I'm really confused, lol, any help or insite would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

epson as well. i have one of the 3-in-1's with the cd printer tray. i've done hundreds of discs with it. but yes, quirky.

I got a new Epson Photo Stylus RX610 (680) in US. Works fine, havent had an issue printing anything on it.

Also epson, don't love it but it works. I heard that canon originally had planned CD printers but there was a patent issue or something with them and they only sell them in Europe, but there's a whole "mod" community dedicated to modding the us printer back to print on cd's and it's been done successfully.

Epson R220 and R300 in house here. Work fine, ink consumption seems reasonable unless we are printing a ton of them.

No complaints other than ink prices in general are outrageous. For a while, we would buy a new printer for $99.00, use the inlcuded ink cartridges, then when they ran out, we would sell the used printer on Ebay for $50.00 or $60.00 and buy another because it was cheaper than buying new cartridges. Too much hassle though and if you use Non-Epson inkjet cartridges, they screw up the printer.

They kind of have us by the huevos.

I've been using 3rd party ink cartridges (supermediastore.com) in my Epson for several years now and still get excellent printouts. It is a quirky printer.

Really? They don't clog up the heads? What brand of ink carts? Would love to know because 3rd party has given me nothing but grief, colors are poor, heads clog, etc.

Epson R200 here. I don't print a lot of CD/DVD art, but it works fine when I do, and looks great. Ink is pricy (J&R here in Manhattan has the best prices anywhere I've found), and doesn't last very long, but overall I'm happy with the unit.

Actually, for the 200, 220 and 300 Epsons, you can buy cartridges at Costco for a little bit a break.

I think the government should investigate the price of ink for inkets. It runs something like $200.00 a gallon

It's friggin INK!!!!

Yes, thats where I have been buying mine from. You save a considerable amount over buying them elsewhere but still what a ripoff.

It's the old razors and razor blades business model, it's worked for 150 years, why not for Epson? Some people use that technology that sort of burns in graphics on the CD/DVD face, I forgot what it is called. No ink, but I still think that they get you by having to have you buy special CD/DVD media.

Lightscribe. And yeah the blanks cost more. Never tried 'em though.

My problem is that I don't think that they look that great since there is no color involved, it is more of just a shading. Like the idea but the finished discs don't look very pro to me.

It's not the lack of color with LightScribe.

It's two things:

1. Lack of contrast;

2. Very slow burn to graphics time -- up to twenty minutes per disc.

My five cents,
I used to use Epsom, But hated the cost and the fact that the cartridge tells the printer to stop printing because it says it was low on Ink, In disgust and after being ripped by the shear cost of the cartridges, I thew it out...Best thing I ever did.
I have been running a cannon i865 for nearly three years now, it has printed thousands of disc's and as many A4's, Cartridges are realistic price and run to the last drop.
I'm a cannon convert. Epsom Printers s*#k, in my experience.

I use a Canon MP610 and love it. Works well with my Mac and Taiyo Yuden inject printables.

In North America, you have to purchase the CD/DVD tray separately though. I bought it off eBay for $20. After that, a simple software download will get you up and running. It was recommended from here by someone earlier in a thread similar to this. No regrets here.
