Hello all
Clairly a newbie question, do I have to purchase any P2 card for my HVX200?
Is the firewire to FCP - DVRACK - Onlocation is enough for an indorr workflow.
I don't see the framerate menu at all, is that because I did not insert any P2 Card then?
Is there any tutorials somewhere to show the workflow with FCP without P2 cards.
I'm sorry if these questions have answers, but the forum is so huge I can't locate my answers.
Thanx

I think you'll find that workflow quite limiting unless the camera is literally locked on an unmoving tripod, always pointing at the same spot. Firewire cables easily pop out and hard drives sometimes miss on capturing live firewire. Get a couple of 8 or 16GB P2 cards instead. It's a relatively small investment on top of the camera and will be a *lot* more useful to you in the long term. But yes in answer to your question...

I totally agree, but it is a budget question for the moment.
But hence that fact, can I still be able to use all the cam power via the firewire? something like format - framerates.....etc. without any P2 card at all.
Thanx

Well you give up certain shooting modes like 720p/24pN which is the camera's most useful and efficient mode. Again I would even suggest getting into some credit card debt before going the route of Firewire only. Incredibly limiting but perhaps someone else will chime in with more experience using FW only. You could even find an 8GB P2 card on eBay for $300 and be better off.

I've shoot tons of indoor and outdoor stuff straight to a computer. It saves a lot of time on day long shoots and can allow for very long interviews with out dumping cards. There is no real drawback unless you want to go handheld. That said I've used my mac laptop in a bag for handheld and had no really problems. There is an app. that will keep it for going to sleep with the lid closed. I velcro my extra long firewire to the handle on the HVX with a big loop to buffer the wire so it won't come out and have velcro on my laptop to hold a loop as well. I see no real drawback and love the extra large monitor.

I'm really happy of your reactions, of course the Pros and Cons of the Labtop running a DV rack are incredibly massive, I have that 12 " laptop that I keep it in the closet, I know it is not capable of HD, but its 80 Gigs and nice anti day light monitor will make me happy.
Of course Having a pair of P2 cards is great to have, but again it is an issue money for the moment.
@ TheKreative : sorry for this very newbie question, but what software you used to capture, are we able to use the variable frame rates? Dv Rack - FCP - HD Monitor Pro or Onlocation?
Have a great day
