HPX 171 dealers?

I was told very specifically/emphatically that the 171 would not be available for purchase in the US.

Can't wait for my 170 to be upgraded to PAL as I need that function too.
 
hmmm, that kind of sucks... You folks have a loat better prices. When I bought my HVX its price was 5500 $ in states and in europe 5500 euros. They really have a nasty way of overpricing it here... whats up with the upgrade, is it for shure?
I've read most of the thread but the impression I had was that it wasnt necessarly going to happen.Did things change?

Does anyone know if the HPX-171 is being made available anywhere in the US yet? I'm looking for one in the Los Angeles area.

Ironically, the current exchange rate doesn't favour buying in the US so much anymore. The 171 is available for £2399 ex VAT in the UK, which today is only about $3800 (though no package/P2 card etc).

You will probably have to buy in U.K. and have it shipped here. I don't know any dealers in LA that can get PAL cameras but there may be some here that we don't know about?

You do know that you will have to ship your 171 back to Europe if it needs repair under warranty, right? You may be able to find someone here in LA that will work on it but they are expensive, like $200.00 to $300.00 per hour.

OTOH, with few moving parts, the HPX170/171 will probably be pretty reliable though.

I'm in the UK now, and plan to buy the 171 tomorrow before I fly back to the US on Thursday. The VAT is charged at the time purchase, but refunded after returning a form stamped by customs on exit from the UK.

I'm not sure about buying it and having it shipped.

What's the best price you know for 16gb cards?
 
I think the best I have seen is around $800.00 new and only about $50.00 cheaper than that used. Still a hot commodity and I have not seen anyone "dumping" them...yet.

So that's how VAT works? Interesting. When you are in the shop, ask them how it would work if the product was ordered on their website for immediate shipment to the U.S., would we, the U.S. buyer here have to pay the VAT, then do paperwork to get it back or do we just not have to pay it? I notice all of the websites over there show two prices, one without VAT and one with. I figured the without might be for out of country web purchases but I don't know.

Has anyone purchased an HPX170 from Able?
I hear they are selling it for $4,999 delivered.

I was going to go with SC, but they are slightly higher.

Still waiting a week or so longer to have one with the factory lens fix.
