Some of my C4D work...

Thanks a lot twocik23. If all goes well I will be shooting my first attempt a photoreal VFX shot tomorrow. Combining some dvx footy, hdr on chrome sphere I will shoot, matchmove, and C4D.

We shall see how it goes.

Has it been raining there too? It's rained here on and off for 3 days or more.

I'm on the back half of a 40 hr render so not much I can do but browse the boards.

Any updates on the new shot?

Hey Gord! Yeah I had some rain yesterday and of course my actor I was going to use in my vfx shot couldn't do it for me today. Where are his priorities :(. He said he will help me before he goes to work tomrrow. Fat chance I'm thinking. I could shoot it my selft with no actor or put the camera on a tripod but I think it will be more effective with a moving camera and a atcor.

I plan on matchmoving the scene as well. So hopefully I shoot it Monday. If not I will just use my girlfriend as the actor on Tuesday :).

Sounds like a long freaking render. Is that for the fest? Looking forward to seeing your work. Loved your 02 model!

I know what you mean by people's priorties whenever you want to shoot something.
We had one guy arrive and drink beers for a couple hours until his girlfriend wanted to go home, so he had to live. It was an all night shoot too. It worked out though with a new guy.

Hang onto the raw footage for your matching moving tests. They might be usefull in the 3D mini fests when they get under way. Just a thought.

The render I'm doing is pretty long. It's not for the fest but it is for a dvxuser. That's if it works though the way I'm putting it together. If not, it's in the dumpster, hehe.
Normally I render multipass in sections but this is my first Vue render so I'm anxious to get it out of the way so I know what I can expect from the renders. So far so good.
If it turns out and gets accepted I'll send a link, probably in 3 or 4 weeks.

Yeah, I'd like to see your new shot when it's ready. Been awhile since I've done matchmoving. Kind of getting an itch to do one again, hehe.

Curious to see your Vue render if it turns out. I will certainly hang onto my raw footage for possible tests and a mini fest.

When I get a chance to start working on it I will certainly upload the results on here!

First I purposely shot some handheld shakey footage to make the track harder. Then I tracked the shot in Syntheyes using supervised trackers.

I then brought the footage into Cinema 4D. I used my tracker nulls to build shadowcathers and proxy geometry for the spheres to fall on. I used sliverbullet for the dynamics in Cinema 4D. Then setup a multipass export to After Effects including exporting some of my tracking nulls so I could use those to make smoke/dust in AE.

Brought everything into AE then composited including adding motion blur to the CG elements, added smoke/dust with particular and color corrected.

Hopefully some people find this interesting :).

Thanks Tom I'm working on a better version of that. Their were a few problems in that comp that were bugging me.

very impressive work there grasshopper. The only small thing I noticed was the shadows cast by the spheres were a little more diffuse than those cast by the handrail and the lighthouse looking things on the sidewalk. But those can be adjusted in post easily.

Other than that, it looked damn fine indeed.

Hey Matt. Thanks for the compliments and thanks for watching. Very good eye too :). I"m actually re-rendering a scene right now. With harder shadows, little less motion blur, little less color to spheres and dust/smoke a little less obvious.

Thanks again Matt I'm really trying to nail it this time so I can use it in my reel.

Yep those light things were what I used to base my shadows.

Yeah, the animation with the balls is much smoother now and it looks like the balls are part of the scene. Before they kind of looked out of place.

Now go put that on your reel! :)

Few more matchmove tests. I purposely shot this with really bad conditions. Hand held, walking, horrible lighting, no tracking markers and not a whole of geometry to track in the scene. I used supervised tracking in Syntheyes.

Their is a small jump/jitter which I mistakenly did in Cinema 4D. The track was fine but I moved a key frame in Cinema and that gave me a jump :(.

Here was a early render before I messed up the key frames in Cinema :(

Hey Tom, yeah their products look awesome. I actually got motor a few days ago :). I would love to have all of their products. If I get enough jobs I would love to get a few more of their products at least Mokey.

"before I said the hell with VFX. lol"

lol

It started out as just a matchmove exercise but thought I would take a few steps further. Its not very polished did most of it today. I didn't spend a whole lot of time on cg building as you can see. I may re-model and re-texture the building in the future.

I used cinema 4d to place the building and the bg image per the matchmove and the rest I did in After Effects.

I did the voice over with my crappy computer headset then cleaned up the audio and added some effects to it. I didn't feel like taking my shotgun mic out for this. I keyed it in After Effects and built a lightwrap for it as well. The vimeo compression kind of sucks its hard to see the digital rain.
