Playback footage vs captured footage

Hey guys,
I have been shooting on my DVX100A
When i watch the footage on a tape deck or even on Final cut through my DVX, the footage looks clean, clear and crisp.
As soon as i capture these footage through Final Cut, it looks like crap.
All blurry... It seriously looks worse than someone shooting on their digi cam...

Am I doing something wrong when i'm capturing?

How are you viewing the footage? One your FCP desktop? On an external monitor?

If you're worried about how the footage appears in the "capture now" window, don't be. That's just for reference. If, after capture and played back out of FCP, it still looks bad... well, you might want to check your capture settings and make sure that you're set up for DV-NTSC with 48kHz audio.

I use DV-NTSC 48kHz and when i watch the quicktime footage of it, it looks HORRIBLE!!!

So do I uderstand correctly that your concerned about the quality in QuickTime Player? Not within FCP?

QuickTime as a standalone player on your computer desktop is not an accurate judge of video quality. Yes, it's going to look pretty bad that way. When you need to start being concerned is when the footage looks like crap within Final Cut Pro, and on external video monitors played from FCP or from DV tape.

you should hook it up to a television and if it looks like that still something is wrong. lets see some screen shots of your quicktime window

In FCP do you have the quality setting turned down so it will play faster. It might be as easy as tuning up the quality to best. Also make sure in quicktime that you have the quality set to best.

Good Luck.
