Infamous: a web-series production blog

Now this is a great concept! Thanks for putting a blog together to show a bit of how all of this came together.

If you're interested, I'll throw in some constructive crit after this sentence, so if you like that sort of thing read on and if not, stop here. ;)

Ep. 1 was smooth, and fun. You may have asked for a bit of a leap of faith from your audience right off the bat, though. I had a rough time believing the target would just jump into an acting scene like that. Still, the pay off was good and the episode was well acted and funny. It made me want to watch ep. 2, which is the best thing any ep.1 can do!

Ep. 2 had some great bits in it, and worked well to introduce us to the inner workings of the main character's day job. I do, however, think you missed an opportunity with the head boss character. The part was well played, for what it was, but it was written as a cliche. Putting a twist on it, so these guys are working for someone other than what you might expect, would not only make better use of a minor character but would help explain how these guys got their unusual day jobs in the first place.

Ep 3 was by far the best of the first 4. Didn't see the parting shot (where the mess gets more fun to clean) coming at all, and you guys sure cast some nice looking females. Loved this one.

Ep 4, on the other hand, was a huge miss for me. You're limited to 6 eps for this project, and in my humble opinion you wasted this one. Asking the girl out should have been one scene - a minute or so. The cheating sub plot didn't interest me at all and I think could have been used for something that better moved the over-all storyline.

Which brings me to my biggest crit... I started this post by saying what a great concept this was. That concept gets lost in all the episodes besides ep. 1. In episodes 2, 3, and 4, nothing is done really to establish the characters as actors. Movie geeks, yes. Struggling actors? No. Ep 1 sets that up, and 2 and 3 are good for showing us the day job, but 4 should have re-established the acting thing. Maybe a casting call or an audition scene, anything, really, to re-establish the premise. It's tough to do a lot in 4-5 minutes, but each episode has to reinforce the concept and stand on it's own. I can't say I feel you've done that, because after 4 episodes, you no longer have two actors forced to work as killers, you have two killers who think they're actors. I can't imagine anyone seeing 2, 3, and 4 without first seeing 1 would have any idea the show was about actors and not killers.

That said, I think you guys are doing some really great work here. I think you did the right thing not only holding on to your IP, but also insisting you and your partner play the leads. You guys are talented and work well together.

I'm very much looking forward to seeing how episodes 5 and 6 go.

Best one so far. The photography keeps getting better and better too. Were you guys able to take longer on setups on this one or something? I wish these eps were 30min. How can the next one be the last, dammit? :)

Thanks. This was our 4th day of shooting, so I think everyone was just really dialed in. We did shoot for a long time, but most of that had to do with the action. I think we shot 18 hours that day.

I'm loving this series guys. Love the interactions between you guys. Honestly, it works very well. Also love that Sam Witwer is in it. Go BSG! Ha, his character died though... in a cool way... anyways enough about BSG.

But really, the series is top notch. Great all around film-making, great writting, great characters, especially the two main. You guys are fun to watch, entertaining, and bring a lot to the table. It's a fresh pair, not just another Jakie Chan and Chris Tucker pair.

Just, like others have been saying, would like to see more about the struggles as an actor. Right now it's just about contract killers that don't treat their job all too seriously. Funny, but would love to see how the two worlds collide. We saw that in the first episode of course, really funny stuff, but that's about it. You simply hint to the fact that they're sturggling actors in the later episodes. Small mentions of headshots, talking to an agent, etc...

Anyways, aside from that beef, love it.

Thanks Jon! Wish you could have read our original script. We had a lot more of those types of scenes. The studio was afraid that getting too into the acting world would alienate a large audience.

And thanks for the comments!

They may be right. After all we're in the industry, so obviously our interests are different.

Still though...

Great episode, but again, it doesn't seem like they're out of work actors. This is just a story about contract killers. It's funny and all, but not seeing the acting side of things. Not even a hint.

That part of the show falls by the wayside more and more, as we hear from more and more people about how regular folks can't relate to the plight of actors.

I guess so! I think contract killing is just interesting, where as the life of an out of work actor is not. But of course, I agree with you, if I had my choice, we would do the episodes we wrote about accents and auditions, acting class gone wrong, and Corey Feldman stealing a role from me.
