If only hell froze over... [California Fires]

Man, I'm out here in woodland hills (Los Angeles) and these fires look like they are getting BBADD. I haven't had to evacuate, but a few of my friends have. Anyone here had to evac? (being that your posting from an iphone or some hot spot, no pun intended.)

thank you. I'm not in the immediate path of it, as of now of course. So rather pray for those who have had to evacuate and those who have died in the fire.

Saw this picture and thought I would share:

My heart goes out to those affected. Fires are terrible things. I may be heading down there next week, if I can I will take some photos of my own to share.

Best of luck!

I'm actually right next to you, but to the east. I don't think we have to worry. Seems like these things happen all the time. Plus I just moved out here and all of my belongings can fit into the back of my car.

If things get worse I wish you well.

Here goes the cycle again... last year my house almost went up... so far we're ok... hope everyone stays safe... I still say I'd rather have fire's than hurricanes.

oh yeah, i much rather have fires than hurricanes. I'm not exactly sure why, but fires seem more controllable, even though often they are not.

I was actually thinking about going to take pictures of it with a few of my friends, but than we heard you can't really get close enough without a press pass, so me and my dad were thinking of going (he's part of press) Would have made for some interesting pictures.

I'm pretty sure I'm really not in danger whatsoever [crosses fingers] but I just feel terrible for the people effected. I heard on the news one of the victims was a homeless man and his dog:( that was something that just really hit me.

It'll be an interesting day at school tomorrow being that El Camino is now an Evac Center! Another reason i posted this, was thinking maybe we could have a lil DVXuser meeting if any of us here were evacted there hahahah. Just kiddin though, but oh that would be an interesting meeting.

So does that happen regularly? Every year? And why? Some jerk just throwing a cigarette into the woods? I hope you are all doing OK out there. I wish you the best.

No such disasters over here, that's why I'm wondering.

Most fires usually start when lightning hits a tree or by some other natural occurrence -- though of course fires started by carelessness or intent get a lot of publicity. North America has some of the most densely-packed wooded areas, and SoCal is above-average for dryness and population density. (No one would care that much if there were a fire out in the middle of nowhere.)

He seems to happen about every five years. Sometimes It's really bad, several hundred homes vaporized.

It's important to note that the Brush fires driven by Santa ana winds are a part of the region's natural life cycle. The Chapparal is supposed to burn. If it doesn't, it becomes decadent. Some of the seeds don't germinate unless exposed to fire. Animals? They run away. It's natures way of rebooting the habitat. The one and only thing these fires hurt is man. But no worries, Any of these brush fires can be effectively cut off at the world's best fire break: The Pacific Ocean.

Yeah, California is definitely a magnet for wild fires. We had a big one up here a month or so ago - The Telegraph Fire. Down South gets hit badly almost every year it seems and a few weeks ago one started up very close to my house. Luckily, they got it out really quickly. I have a video of it and the choppers flying right over head. It's ridiculous, something happens and the first thing we do is grab a camera. :) I remember running up the driveway with the tripod, holding the camera on top, to get the shot. (This was after I knew I wasn't in immediate danger, of course). Maybe I'll upload the footage later, but here is a photo taken from my Aunt's back porch:
