why do media reviews say the HMC150 is lighter than DVX100?

Clearly it is not, according to panasonic's brochure for both cameras.

HMC150: 4.3lb with SD + supplied battery + mic
DVX100B: 4.19lb with supplied battery + tape

I was really hoping for a much lighter camera.. ARGHHH..

The external mic isn't supplied, it's an extra. Anyone received their mic yet?

I've never used a dvx, but I can compare the hmc to a xl1 I used. They are not exactly the same, but the HMC is light, really light. Well that's my opinion..........and again I don't know how light is the dvx....

Yup, it's also apart of the shooter's package (hi-cap battery, bag, mic). I am still waiting on those, and a couple of spare batteries. Almost time for my weekly check in to see if Panasonic has shipped the stuff the to stores i purchased from....

The 150 almost feels lighter than the dvx because it is bigger but not much heavier. The HVX 200 would hurt my wrist after shooting for 5 minutes where the 150 doesn't seem to be as much as a strain.

I think it's all in the balance.

This camera is heavier than I thought it would be but it feels good in my hand so I don't notice the weight as much.
It also looks smaller than the measurements would lead one to believe so again I think this form factor and the design are well balanced.

And it grips your hand like a glove compared to the 100a. At least for me. Unless you were expecting something much smaller/lighter, it isn't an issue and you get used to it quickly.

Now if you you use a tiny case/bag that you had to squeeze a DVX into, maybe that would be a problem, but you gain back that little bit of room from the difference in size of tapes vs SD cards ;)

I've been shooting handheld with the HVX 200 for over a year now at work (2 to 3 hours a night, 1 or 2 days a week). Now that i have my HMC150, i leave their HVX in its case and use my camera for the feed. The image compliments and blends well with the other HVXs being used in the hall (sd output squeezed....).

sorry for the thread jack....
