Lets survey the Total footage shot by P2 cards and tape cost saving in one year.
1 How many hours of P2 footage you shot?
2 How many P2 cards you have
3 Do you use p2 Store, HDD, or Laptop?
4 Do you think you save money shooting P2?
5 What is the average time save because of P2? (ingesting VS Coping)
6 Is failure of P2 footage is because of P2 or FCP or process of transferring?
7 P2 store VS HDD transfer Reliability?

Keep answers only in survey it will be easy. Feel free to add the question.
Do you think Panasonic should gave away an AGHVX200 or atleast P2 cards to the owner who shoot the highest no of hours on P2.

Happy ThanksGiving.

1) I have had my camera 3 months and have acquired over 1000Gb of footage that has cost me $350 to store. Most of the footage is 720/24pn however I do have about 40% of that at 1080 so that equates to about 35 hours of footage.
2) I have 4 x 8gb P2 cards.
3) No P2 store or firestore. I use a G4 powerbook that I've had for nearly 3 years.
4) At $25 for a DVCPro HD tape that holds 32 minutes that would have cost about $1700 in tape stock. Now most of that cost would have been passed on to the client or come out of their pockets originally, so have I saved money over using tape?
Well being that there is no camera for under about $30,000 that will shoot DVCPRO HD to tape, I think yes, I have saved money by having a P2 camera and cards for under $10,000.
5) For every 1 hour of tape footage it takes about 2 to 2.5 times that to log and capture so do the math.
6) No failures so far.
7) Don't use P2 store. I load cards into PCMCIA slot and copy to HDD.

Panasonic should only do the give away if I am the one with the most footage:)

1. Around 300gbs worth.
2. 2x8gb p2 cards.
3. We use the p2 store for exteriors & laptop+1 master & 1 backup hd for interiors.
4. Eventually, yes. Though I still wish there were 16gb P2 cards and they were cheap!
5. Time saved is huge compared to digitising tapes.
6. We've had no failure so far, touch wood. We're using Avid.
7. I feel safer transferring direct to two hard drives (master + backup) through a laptop. That way you can verify what you've transferred. On the p2 store there's an element of flying blind.

Nice, but what medium do you all utilize to archive your data?

I buy 250gb Hitachi 7200rpm deskstar sata drives (bare) $75 each and I put them in an enclosure that I picked up for $109 from cooldrives. When it's full, I print a screen grab of the drive in the finder showing the folders on it and put that and the drive back in the plastic container it came in and put it on a shelf. That works out to about 9.5 hours of footage stored for $75. Once Blu-ray or HD-DVD becomes affordable I'll probably burn to disc.
