I have had multiple DVXUSERS ask what the HPX170 looks like on the inside. So I took one apart today for you guys. Don't worry. I was under the supervision of our Authorized Service Center.
One thing that I noticed is that almost the entire camera is metal. The plastic parts just have less plastic in them, the metal parts seems to be slimed down also to get the weight down some, but over all, it still has the same build quality as the HVX200.
There is a lot of shielding everywhere so we don't have to worry much about interference which is good.
The lens is much smaller now too. Now that we are at 72mm, the lens weight is greatly reduced, and we still have a rockin' picture coming out of it.
It just feels REALLY weird opening up a camera and finding no tape mechanism. All you see is a bunch of circuit boards, and a lens all screwed together to make one piece of awesome.
Enjoy everyone! Throw any questions that you may have my way.
EDIT: Sorry about the fuzzy pics.
