Great news for Canon users!

How is this different than what Convergent Design has released with the Flash XDR and nanoFlash?

i think the HVR-MRC1 Memory Recording Unit records via firewire while the flash xdr & nanoflash record from hd-sdi, which is only available on the g1.

now if only something could work similar to this but capture via the component out and capture 4:2:2 onto some sort of card, that would be sick!

It would just be great if they could release it already! That would be fantastic.

Eh. I just bought a firestore because I'm tired of waiting for this. The longer they don't release it, the less unsatisfied I'll be ;)

Well, Focus Enhancements just filed for bankruptcy...so unless they start selling their FS-C drives really cheap, I think I'll bite the bullet and wait.

As a side-note: I'm NOT trying to thread crap here or create some kind of firestore vs. sony CF recorder debate :)

Does the CF recorder save files as .m2t or wrap them as QT files? I didn't buy the FS-C - too expensive - but the FS-4 HD will record the .m2t files and using ClipWrap I can convert them to QT files.

Is the workflow for the CF recorder basically the same? I would much rather buy the CF recorder, but 1) It isn't available yet :( and 2) use FS-4s may be cheaper than this recorder. We'll just have to wait and see!

Hm, I like the looks of that ClipWrap program. Is it true that there really is no resolution loss?

EDIT: What if you want to go to ProRes? Is that possible as well?

The cf recorder does record m2t, the link in my previous post links to the rewarp plugin for fcp. prores is an option automatically on 24p material, but I believe you can do it for all, I haven't tried that though.

Is there any way to fake an HVR-DR60 style directory structure for my Firestore-produced .m2t files? I'd much rather rewrap my files using FCP if possible, but from the sound of it, the plugin requires Sony-specific log files.

Is there any work around for this?
