Cinemek's g35 adapter shipping june 20th!

I'm also curious how the G35's ground glass compares to Cinevate's new CFX(L), which is available now for the Brevis.

I found some footage shot with the new Cinevate CFX(L) screens. While it does have more blur than the brighter Cinevate screens, it still does not compete with the quality of the bokeh that the G35 has. Watch for sharpness in the bokeh of this clip, imho, it's just not there:

While some adapters do alright with showing sharp circles in the specular highlights, you can't see the circles in normal objects like you can with the G35. Watch these and you will see what I mean:

Light loss.
Yes, the G35 reduces your stop by 1.5. However, it is not "lost". We know exactly where it is going. In order to achieve a sharp scattering angle (the cause for good bokeh and no fall off) you need to efficiently scatter the light. Also, pay close attention to the blown out sections of john's footage. Take note of the high contrast lines. The G35 handles the "head" of the exposure range with ease to take the pressure off of your camera lens. These are two qualities that are often overlooked in adapters.

The G35 is not a "low light" adapter. It's not intended to be. We have done that and just plain didn't like the sacrifices required to gain that 1 stop. Fortunately the brevis and Letus are great low light solutions which compliment the G35 well. Or you can just take the adapter off (it only takes 10 seconds to remove and replace. ) regardless we have all been very lucky for this open forum as there are now several wonderful solutions for under $1500. 3 years ago a wide angle adapter cost nearly that much.

High shutterspeeds maintenance free operation.
There is somthing very exciting about being a part of a community and watching the developmet of a product (Dennis Wood) with Cinevate or "Guskers the cat" for some peope. Screen upgrades achromat upgrades all of these allow everyone to see a fledgeling company grow. We did not choose that path as a static solution makes it difficult. To assemble these you need to be in a "clean" environment. Clean bench is a necessity. You won't have to ever worry about a piece of dirt showing up or that you need to blow off or re-aligning a screen because it became a-jar. No maintenance required.
More to come in a bit. Sorry for my spelling. I'm on my phone. Just wanted to reply. :)

Very well said, Jonathan. It's very good of you to avoid the obvious temptation of bashing the competition. I used an early prototype of the G35 and found it to be a beautiful piece of machinery. The bokeh is quite stunning.

Congratulations on reaching this part of your dream. I do wish you every success with this. You have worked hard, persevered through some harrowing personal stuff and still came out the other side. That says a lot about you as a person.

I really enjoy the overall look and feel of this adapter. However I am upset about the no flip and the light loss. The new brevis element is very appealing but I am still waiting for the SGBLADE. I would like to see more recent footage with the cinemek.

I also vote for the motion of shipping to Mr Bloom to see what he can do.

I'll more than likely be picking up one of these. as long as when i purchase i won't half to wait over a monthe to teceive.

John (Lee) that video you referred to earlier of CFXL footage was from Paul's first day shooting with the adapter. The folks over at Stillmotion shot these with the CFXL and EX1. I know Phil Bloom is also cooking up some footage with his collection of four Brevis units.

Total system light loss, (including the loss from a 50mm f1.4 lens) is still in the .75 stops loss range, with a usable aperture range approaching f5.6. Of course, if you need more light efficiency, CF1Le is about to be announced mod'd for the EX1.

Cheers,
Dennis Wood.

Dennis,
Your new imaging element is looking good! Nice to see people coming out with a solution for EX1 users that's not a ridiculous amount of money. This CFXL does a stellar job in those Stillmotion demos!

I love what still motion is doing with the brevis and the ex1, but I just canot get pass the video look thats this combo is giving off. At this point from what i've seen so far this g35 may have the most filmic texture out of all the sub $2000 adapters so far. even the sgpro in which I own.

We should also consider that the 1.5 stops of light loss isn't what it used to be just a few months ago.

The Advent of the HPX170/200A model Panasonic Cameras and the PMW-EX1 from Sony means that we've got all around faster cameras to begin with.

Yesterday's 1.5 stops is more like .5 ~ 1 today
