HPX170 HD to SD thru firewire?

Can you output a downconverted HD to SD signal thru firewire to a mini dv cam to be recorded to tape with the 170?

No. The firewire outputs whatever the camera is shooting, so in HD modes the firewire output is HD.

It can downconvert on the SDI or component outputs, but not on the firewire output.

Thanks Barry. I thought this may work like the internal downconversion to tape with the HVX.(At least i think the HVX can do this :) )

Is there a simple method to in theory downconvert HD footage to a miniDV camera/deck via a cable other than SDI, avoiding going to computer first?

I am guessing, that if you wire it with the analog component into a plain tv or another camera with those inputs like the DVX100 you should be able to do it. I mean I read someone posted that they connected their component cables to their older tv , shooting at 720p and they were able to see the image.

By the way I love your work David,

The 170 can downconvert to its RCA video port or its component port or its SDI port. So if you had analog component input or RCA input into the miniDV camera or deck, yes you could get the job done.

why does SD have so much artifacting in it on the 170. I just shot some stuff and dubbed it to tape and it looks terrible. I'll post a link to some footage, Barry any insight or experience in this matter? Thanks!
