HMC150 questions answered...

I was going to take some test footage today to put up on Vimeo for you guys but it's raining go figure... Regardless.

Day 2 of the camera I definitely am blown away. There are so many features about it that amaze me. Off the top of my head...

-Perfectly balanced. Side to side and forwards to back it's perfectly even if you were to hold it by the handle in the middle.

-For final cut pro 6.0.4 users.. it's ridiculously easy to capture the footage. Couldn't be more convenient and it looks fantastic.

-All of the buttons and switches couldn't be laid out any easier. Everything is very simple and easy to use after some acquaintance.

-very ergonimic. Fits comfortably my hand. It's also insanely light. I could hold it for hours and not be tired.'

-large and comfortable eye cup

-large and clear lcd. Has tons of neat features on it such as the exact minutes you have left of the battery

I would try rendering to quicktime if that's possible

Thanks for the tip, but I went to try to render to QT and apparently, I don't have the full version installed, so it won't let me do anything/try to modify custom settings.

I have never worked in HD, so I have no idea what output renders I should use. I really have no business getting this camera <don't care, getting it anyway>

I will have to buy a Blue Ray burner and learn to make DVD's in Sony's DVD Architect (the newest release does support BR)

Not sure why there is a difference. One thing that I'm guessing I did differently from Shrigg was to use Sony's AVCCAM Viewer to move and delete footage from SDHC to my computer. I downloaded it the other day and it is supposed to allow you to view, move, edit and delete files. I'm not sure how I feel about it on the whole, but it's got a couple of slick viewing options built in. The only catch is that the file you start with has to be on a card. Not sure if that is 100% true, but when I first installed, I couldn't get it to work with Barry's downloaded footage. Works fine with data off my card.

Anyone else try it?

Folks, I have the footage shot by both Shrigg & Kurtmo.

Has anyone noticed:
- the difference in folder naming - AVCHD / AVCHDL
- lack of BACKUP folder w/Kurtmo's structure

Might this be due to a difference in camera settings? If I remember correctly, I think this camera can share/load shooting profiles. Not sure if you guys have the time, but once I get mine I would be happy to load your profiles to my camera and compare the results.

I assume that it's not a camera version thing. Shrigg's pics showed AG-HMC150PJ.

I simply copied the entire PRIVATE folder from the card to my hard drive, dropped it in a new folder with a unique name then zipped everything. So what I uploaded is what comes straight off the camera with no modifications.

For archiving however I will need to split up my 16Gb cards in order to burn them to DVD so I will be checking out the included Panasonic AVCCAM file management software for this. I'll be running their Windows-only (thanks, Panasonic!) software through Fusion on the Mac so that may be interesting... We'll see.

Darren,
Thank you for the time and effort you put forward to post the footage. Most appreciated.
I noticed that some of the clips had pixel distortion/coloration banding. Was that on the origination clips you posted.

It may depend what you are viewing it on. Can you specifically describe the area/clip you are talking about? Then we can see if others see it too.

Certainly.
Go to Clip #5 (sprinkler wide shot scene)
Distortion begins at 1 sec 22 frames
Distortion ends at 4 sec 12 frames.

It is evident so if it's on the origination clips, you will definitely see it. Let me know what you
find out.

Darren...
I am viewing the clips that exhibit the color banding issues on an Apple 30" Cinema Display with FCP
6.04 and NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512mb vid card.

Detailed archiving solution-

1. Put the SDHC card on the shelf.
2.

There is no #2, end of story.

This is where tweak sees the underwear gnomes right? haha

I'm seeing some serious errors in a lot of the clips too.
This is clip #5 at around 2 sec - the error lasts for a few seconds.

I used log and transfer to import the clips into final cut 6.0.4

Great now i need a shelf. This thing is getting expensive.:nads:

Should I buy the Panasonic shelf, or will there be a cheaper third party shelf? Any chance of a DVXUser combo with a battery and a shelf?
