What 5D MkII 30p really means to filmmaking...

uhhh. No...
You obviously are not look at the Pic.
I use a tilt + Shift lens and it doesn't work like that.
Any case I will drop it because you have no clue what I am talking about.

It sort'a does look like a tilt shift. Best just wait for the footage to be released, honestly.

was concerned about the compression and what it would mean to color correction. since video is not available for this, took the frame from the video and ran some stuff in photoshop. not apples to apples, but not a bad test. no banding issues i came across and photoshop tends to be pickier than, say, fcp.

it's the future, and its happening now. Whatever he used a tiltfocus or not the light sensibility is amazing in comparission to any cam build to date. The only thing that bugs me is that I never gone for the Canon interpretation of colors and contrast in their sensors. Is kind of lifeless, whereas Nikon has a more dramatic interpretation. I can see its images breathing, in Canon feels to me artificial and not very realistic.

I think that RED is in a big trouble now. Adobe is pushing their RAW videocode and big sensors hitting the streets for anyone. I'm so glad that now we can update our HD cams for less than 1~2k dolars now. So we can spend all avaiable money on light and sound and not on a technological video race that just eats our money every year and a half.

For now I'll keep the Nikon D90 over the 5D. Buying tomorrow. Canon is attractive for its specs, but then, Nikon is just started their video business and its closer of my tastes. Next year we'll have so many still cams that shoots HD that this forum will multiply tenfold. And it's just the beginning :)

I agree. It's one of those "look at this amazing shot!" but It's pretty clear it's been worked on and does not look convincing at all.....

I don't think it's been worked at all.

That's just Tilt Lens.

An architect was at our building the other day.

It's a new building that cost 85Million Bucks US.

No ****. A bit expensive to put it lightly.

At any rate, he was taking photos for his website of their finished jobs.

He was shooting with a 5D and a Tilt Shift Lens right around Dusk just when all the lights came on.

I saw his photo in that crappy little Canon view finder just after he shot it without any "working".

I was like yeah... this place was worth he 85Mil.

Great Photo!

Tilt Shift in the right hands is the Shyte!

Guys, This has to be fake Again.

Canon would of released this at the announcement.
This VIncent Laforet seems strange.

This not hard proof unless Canon is backing it.
So I would love to be wrong but this clown has got us going in circles
for nothing.

WOW....

So sure of yourself and so quick to disparage VIncent Laforet....

P.S. His pics from the baseball game at Yankee Stadium are on the front of the New York Times....

But go on.... you were saying?

Just a quick question booggerg2. Why is their face and water focused but not on the same level but their body and odd parts blurred? Also that sharp light behind the girl?

The shot is no doubt great for what it's worth but where is the actual video if he got
a still from the video.

Thanks

Dear lisa hayse.

Please READ THE MOTHA F"N BLOG Before you ask so many questions.

It is TILT FOCUS TILT FOCUS...

Sincerely,

Estebe

P.S. I still love you.

ok, i totally hear you abt the tilt lens. still doesn't make up for the fact the pics look "unnatural". i might add this looks unnatural to me. mayb everyone else is buying this. however, another question comes to mind; when testing a camera like this WHY would you do it with a tilt on? if you read the (so called) review it was full of "no processing", "only one battery", "i had never used it before", "no extra light" -type purist comments. putting a tilt on when showing raw camera functions / images makes no sense... to me... i might add! ok, leaving this be now.

:)

Vincent Laforet's 5D MKII video to debut in less than 12 hours:

There is also a pretty incredible announcement coming up from them on this blog… within the next hour or so… One that almost trumps the release of this video in my opinion- an announcement that you all have a chance to benefit from…

I think there's a decent chance that the camera will at least be switchable to 50hz; and if not on this model I would be shocked if it weren't included on the next camera higher up on the totem pole.

Exciting times, indeed.

I think we're going to see some interesting
work done at ghastly 30p regardless of the "aesthetic compromise".

Maybe someone can write a fresh "Dogma '08" that lays down the law for this brave new cinematic world...

Man, is crazy everywhere. Here waiting for more real life samples from the Canon and over at scarletuser with the annoucement from Red of a big overhaul for Scarlet. Nikon started the fire and everybody is going bananas. Great stuff!

FIERCE!!! :zombie_smiley:

elton: if this is going to happen what you're implying - i.e. bombshell getting AT LEAST a 50p facelift.. then yummy -
.. i would finally go insane and arrange a date with her IMMEDIATELY!!!

..without even considering dolls from nikon anymore..
