5DII DOES 1080P footage!!!!!!

even if it's youtube and it's being filmed off a laptop, that actually looks pretty damn promising. doesn't seem to be rolling shutter issues (no skewing, no jello). color looks amazing. in the right hands (like any tool) this could really rock.

I want to love this camera too, guys, but come on! This youtube link is ridiculous. How can anyone tell anything at all from this crap? Now the stills from the other thread are simply mind blowing, but this is garbage as an example of what this camera can do. If anything it proves how much 30p sucks and makes even the most beautiful images look like a high budget soap opera.

I am going to try and get this the day it comes out.

24p seems like a firmware update.

I love my 5D...but, i wish i had this updated camera when i was in Hong Kong...

or anywhere for that matter...i know the kinds of images the 5D and its lenses can produce...and if the 5D Mark II can give me my images but in a sequence of frames at 30fps or later at 24fps...i will be incredibly happy.

Rich: great images..

Yes the 5D2 will give you videos like that. The great thing is it's able to give use those creamy bokeh with Canon's great lens line up.. The other option for generally better IQ is RED ONE(not in high ISO situations).. but can you imagine hauling that box around in the streets of HK?

What lenses were these shot with?

No matter what...both the nikon and the canon will push both the video and still worlds forward...even the little casio still camera that shoots 1k frames a second is amazing. They have the right ideas in mind and it will only get better.

Im lovin the SLR still/hd video combo here...exciting times.

Now if only the automotive industry could rethink themselves a bit.

booggerg2 - the lenses i use are canon 16-35L series, 50 f1.4, 35 f2.0, 200 f2.8...i love em.

Heh, always something to complain about eh? Rolling shutter didn't stop people from producing incredible work on the HV20/30, EX-1 or EX-3 did it? Why should it stop people now?

Thank you Kegan,

Same deal with 29.97 interlaced. People have put out amazing stuff with that. (Granted not 30P, further noted 29.97 and 30p are different entities.)

I have seen great work from a Sony Handicam, I've seen terrible work from a Genesis. In the right hands, anything can look amazing. In the wrong - it looks like crap.

@ RICH LEE:
What lenses were you using for these pictures?

I'm currently preparing a set for my 5D ii baby. I'm most interested in old Zeiss Planar primes. One at a time due to the high prices.

Has anybody else given this a thought?

I know that the Zeiss Planars' focus ring stops at infinite, which is important for a follow focus attachment. Also they just make the most beautiful filmic pictures I've seen.

How will your rigs look like? FF, mini lcd monitor, rodsupport, mattebox etc?

Cheers

Dude, not once have I ever seen such drastic rolling shutter from the slightest camera move with the HV20/30 or the EX1/3. I mean, I've seen rolling shutter issues, but you REALLY have to shake the camera to get it to the point it becomes useless...whereas the slightest camera move with the D90 means you've got a huge problem.

HDMI 8-bit or 10-bit

HDMI 8-bit or 10-bit

Any progress on a HDMI screen grab ? Technically they can output a 10-bit uncompressed 4:2:2 signal over HDMI..

Canon 5D Mk II seems to be an exellent update to my trusty 5D. Also owning a Sony EX-3, a Canon HF-10 and a Panasonic HVX-200, I don´t need the Mk II to do video. But I must admit that I find the HD video option on the Mk II very interesting. It depends on what you shoot and how you work of course, but I can already see quite a few uses for the this option.

I found this link, that might be interesting for other 5D Mk II-fans out there:

http://nrkbeta.no/video-test-clips-from-canon-5d-mark-ii-gets-analyzed/

The NRK-guys (Norwegian Broadcast Corp) are very fuzzy about quality, just like the BBC guys.
It´s quite interesting to read about their initial tests.

I´m looking forward to get my hands on the Mk II, to explore new creative ways of capturing live footage. And of course take great photos with it, because I´m still amazed by my 5D (at least compared to my 40D)...

Best,
Terje Rian
