What 5D MkII 30p really means to filmmaking...

Mmmmm....

Like that body.. Yummy :Drogar-Love(DBG):

But ja, you're right bro, 30p doesn't cut it!!!

With 24p, this DSLR could have revolutionized digital filmmaking at a single blow!!! But instead of leading, Canon decided to indulge in the past, protecting its ageing XH-camcorder line.. Pity, cos now Nikon will have to do the job..

Guys,

seriously. The Canon 5D MKII is the most exciting thing ive ever seen. 21.1 MP..... Full frame... 2600$......

If the Video Function didint exist, i would be equally elated.... Serously, who here is going to shoot a short on a highly compressed, "Movie mode" that a still camera has as a bonus feature...

As a still cam? Totally! I'm an old EOS aficionado and the new 5D is the best of them..

As a movie cam? Not so much cos of the lacking 24p, which indeed keeps the movie mode a "bonus" feature. It just hurts to see the potential that hasn't been exhausted here..

Ja me! I'd use that stunner to shoot loads of stuff. But ok, I'm not into commercial filmmaking.

I like it.

I think he just wanted it warm.

Plus, he shot under sodium lights so that's what he got. :-)

I agree that the 30p factor is dangerous for those who want film distribution for now.

As theaters go digital it will matter less and less.

At any rate, people can petition Canon for 24p but I don't think they'll listen.

Hope they do.

But they probably won't.

I'm all for Sodium Vapor being the culprit if ti is. But, what about his jacket? The shoulder exhibits some super-weird color distortion. I think it's supposed to be cream-white... and strange enough the cream-white walls in the other Canon Demo video showed this same thing.

The thing that really freaks me out is his chin. See how the right of his cleft hangs lower than the left? Creeeepy.

Those shots are stunning considering he only used one small portable light. Lack of 24p is the only thing that will likely protect Canon's professional camcorder market considering the image quality here. I wouldn't expect to see 24p implemented by them until they absolutely _have_ to (i.e. Nikon does it on a similar quality platform).

Absolutely stunning shots indeed! But the 5D MK2 without 24p is like casting pearls before swine..

Ok that's a deal! Will give Canon Europe a call to urge them for 24p..

Spybreak, they will absolutely have to implement it very soon anyway. Not implementing is like inviting Nikon to do the job.
