A-cam dII 'High Definition RAW Format Motion Picture Camera

And I think Uncompressed RAW from Scarlet won't be very hard to enable in the camera. It should be even easier for the hardware, because no compression happens.

my understanding is the contrary. RED ONE (and presumably Scarlet) is basically a computer with a lens mount on the front, and it's more hardware intensive to handle the uncompressed RAW than the compressed. This is the reason why REDCODE RAW was such an impressive innovation. The compression is not only visually lossless, but it means it can run using cheaper hardware, which is why you can now buy a camera body for $17,500 whose closest competition is around $100k. So, considering the RED ONE doesn't have an option for Uncompressed RAW, I'll assume Scarlet won't either.

And I'd say there's zero chance of RED buying Ikoniskop. There's no new tech in that camera that RED is after, and the market for Scarlet is much larger and specifically bleeds into a-cam's share. A-cam's market is very specific.

and just to be clear, Jim, Ted, Graeme, etc like these tech shows a much as everyone else. I saw them all over the place at NAB this year, watching demos, talking shop. I don't think the photo implies anything.

REDOne does... or did have possibility for Uncompresed RAW 4.5K at 60 fps but the problem was the *fridge* factor (storage), not the camera.

If I'm not mistaken.

yes, it did. however that feature was taken off the table while the camera was still in development and hasn't been brought up by RED again, dispite numerous requests.

i could be wrong though

Yes, I checked and it actually needs a special additional board of some kind.

But Uncompressed RAW is not so important, given how REDCODE performs.

Most of the footage I've seen are very impressive, especially Build16 stuff,...

It will happen eventually, as technology progresses. The same as Uncompressed WAVs.

agreed, I've been so impressed with my RED footage that i never feel the desire for uncompressed ever again. I'd rather RED spend the time continuing to refine REDCODE, as they have.

Just heard that somebody was saying "The guys at the Ikonskop booth at IBC said the 80GB magazine will cost way less than a 16GB SxS Card from Sony's EX3. Ikonskop is also developing an e-sata reader for the magazine". WOW !

Sorry my mistake. The original phrase was:

"There isn't an official pricing yet, as it hasn't been set yet. But the estimates were relatively low if you compare what you pay for a 16 GB sxs card"

Whatever 'relatively low' means. It might not be "way less".

This statement came initially from rrrobb in posting #66 of this thread.

The biggest question whizzing around my head is, would this camera be worth me selling my EX1 & LEX?

Being able to shoot in RAW, personally, is perhaps more important than being able to shoot with a razor thin depth of field... Couple that with an interchangable lens system (being able to use 35mm SLR lenses), a natively Super16 sized sensor, and being almost a GRAND cheaper than an EX3 (in England, anyway), I'd say it's an absolute steal!

DD.

And a faster computer. The files are not only immense in size - but are a pain to edit with. Lots on information for the computer to process.
