The image quality the D90 should deliver.

I'm looking forward to seeing Canon and Sony's response to the D-Movie mode. Things can only get better for this function. Just imagine what we will be seeing in a few years time.

No doubt Sony is on this and had a hand in this technology. I see a scenario where Sony allows Nikon to use this tech to keep their relationship so Nikon keeps buying their sensors. This in the process allows Nikon to beta test and legitimize video in DSLR something which Sony has a hard time doing, not having the pull as Nikon.

I'm sure you will. I thought you would also enjoy this:

The free Pentax Remote Assistant 3 software enables you to remotely control one or more tethered K20D digital SLRs from a PC or Mac. You can control almost all camera functions as well as triggering shutter release manually, at regular intervals or at specific times. With more than one camera attached you can even achieve 'same time' synchronized exposures.

I have no experience with Pentax (discovered it at Vimeo) and I don't know if the software controls the burst mode but that are interesting possibilities.
BTW your work at http://www.matthewbennettpictures.com is great.

Thanks!

as long as nikon makes the devices used to build sensors, cpus (intel) and lcds you can be sure many companies are in good relationship with nikon. the dslrs are a small part in the game.

you can do that with nikon camera control pro
you also see the liveview video on your pc that way and select focus points and so on.

Yes I know, I use Nikon Camera Control Pro 2. It costs $169 and is very useful. But I'm afraid you can't start the D90 movie recording with the current version and to my knowledge you also can't control several cameras at once.

i know it's expensive... previous versions without live view were much cheaper. good thing it was free with d300 and d3, at least for a while.

you are right, you can't control at the same time multiple cameras.

Are u guys saying that the pentax k20d can shoot 20fps 1500 x 1000 (up to 5 secs)
full dof without breaking the mechanical shutter???....

If its electronic shutter like you say and the shutter wont break.... THEN WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON!!!!!!!!!

Im quickly heading off to my local camera shop to test this for my self.... Ill let u guys know fo sho.

Yeah, conceivably you could use the Pentax shutter forever without breaking it, if there's no real opening or closing, correct?
I'm going to check this out tonight, too!

Add a Pentax to Nikon mount adapter and you're set!! (to record very tiny, very nice clips at 1500x100)

Jesus Christ! The image is freaking impressive! Does anyone know what is forcing the 5sec shooting limitation? Can't this be by passed? These results are simple incredible. Have you seen the sharpness, the color, the texture. Amazing. Pentax has to come up with something that allows more shooting time!

I didn't find the info in the K20D user manual but the German Pentax website says that in burst mode the shutter stays open and an electronic shutter is used instead.

According to the user manual you can select the highest JPEG compression quality!

I'm looking forward to your hands on experiences.

Please DO fill us in. If this limitation could be by passed then the D90 could have a VERY SERIOUS competitor. Imagewise the Pentax images destroy the D90's I've seen so far.

Are you talking about stills or "movie" quality? I just examined the sample stills at DPReview and I don't think it is superior to the D90. And the meter was all over the place.

I think that still for still, they should probably be around the same quality, no?

Video wise (i'm sure everybody has figured this out but I'll state it again):

With the d90 you get: passable 720p at 24fps, limit of 5min. Delivered in a bottomless bitrate motion jpeg AVI.

With the K20D you get: a burst series of HIGH QUALITY, sequential 1500x1000 JPEGS at 21 fps, maximum 115 frames which would give you a (slightly sped up from real-life) 5 second clip at 24p. You would have to take the JPEG's in AE or whatever to make them into a movie.

Man, I'd like to have both cameras, though!

The d90 for mucking around and practicing, and the K20D for getting those sweet, highly gradable 5sec. slightly sped up clips.

I think the camera has an internal buffer an it writes the burst to the card afterwards. What we would need is 4 frames more and a camera with upgradable RAM.

is this a joke or something?
you call 21 frame bursts "video"?
pentax first has to make a good dslr then go for the video part. you'll have to wait a bit longer.

Ye... seems its electronic for REAL!!!

I saw the camera today and it really works 20P (5secs), the images are proper with exif data and all - manual everything, shutter:) ... DROOL!

This is like a dream... just got to get around the 5 secs limit - perhaps with bigger cards?

Anyone know of a Nikon adapter so I can use my Nikons.
I guess this means Im really considering buying it over the D90.
