Remote follow focus for £150/$300

Aaaah, finally some pictures of the 'receiving end' and the motoric part. ;) That looks very clean and tidy Peter. Great job on keeping it compact, I'm impressed. I look forward to seeing some tests with this baby!

Cheers

Is that a multi turn or is it modified ?

What are you using to program them or are you just using a test switch of some sort ?

The system has six microprocessors and its taken three months to code them. Each Hocus Focus comes pre-loaded with 15 pages of C code.

I've been following this for a while, but when do you think you'll move into production? Are you taking advanced orders? Have you gotten a site up yet?

Hi,

Well the electronics would be working properly in the prototype case tomorrow, but im leaving for a 10 day shoot in Norfolk, so the electronics will have to wait until I get back.

Im in convosations with afew video equipment manufactures, and theres a possibility that they might be re-selling the Hocus Focus. if this happens, theres no need for a sale site, but we have the domain anyway so its not a problem.

Thanks,

Pete.

oh, see what happens whenever I go off to a shoot with no internet? things happen. WOW dude, it's looking awesome. A lot more awesome than I had expected and I was expecting pretty damn awesome.

I AM on the list, right?

Question about the resellers: wouldn't they just bump the price up substantially?

This is the subject of our convosations at the moment. If they are bumping it up too much then il just sell it myself.

You are on the list puck, and now you are too gaz.

CoolLights went the route of direct marketing and although I´d prefer shipping costs like at B&H, the markup for the reseller would probably even out the difference...
The 35mm adapter folks all sell via their own homepage...
Whatever - do what suits you best, just deliver in the end...

sweet! I've been telling people about the HF everytime someone broaches the topic of a remote follow focus (usually when I'm telling them how difficult it is to not have an AC pulling focus on steadicam moves.... which leads into a conversation about remote follow focus systems and how expensive they are, even to rent). I really like the fact that you're taking this all the way to market and being so damn pro about it too, taking all of the details into consideration, so I just wanna say thanks for sticking it out.

Can't wait to get my grubby hands on this....

Well as someone who knows the market, and as someone who would buy one, and as someone who has owned and run an internet business for four years, Im trying to go about it in the most professional way possible.

Im VAT registered and everything :-D

Copyright!

Yeah working on it now....

Peter I did a Google search on Hocus Focus, and there are other products out there with that name.

Are you sure you can use it and not fall foul of the Copyright Law?

Hello again David, good to see you back. Why are you back anyway?

Its a good point defiantly, and it is something I had thought about. There is a chance it will be re-sold under another name, in which case it dosn't matter. I love the name, it would be a real shame to get rid of it.

I will continue to investigate though.
