Remote follow focus for £150/$300

Hi,

Tmaxx spur gear is 32p, not 48p. 48p is absolutly tiny in comparison to 32p, and a 48p and 32p gear will not mesh at all, so theres no real mistake to be made.

I am also an RC person, and I suggested myself a good, strong, fast, and precise servo quite a while ago.

so 32 pitch spurs have even bigger tooth than 48... in order to have quality stuff, you must use 64 pitch to eliminate play and have it smooth.

No caus 64 pitch is even smaller than 32 pitch. 64p means 64 teeth per inch, which is obviously much smaller than 32 teeth per inch.

The standard pitch on a lens barrel (or cinepitch) is 32p or 0.8mod. Theres no point trying to put a 64tooth gear on a 32tooth gear, you wont need to talk about reducing play, you wont have any bite at all, it will just slide around and nothing would get done.

Just doing abit of research here, ive just had some samples back from a photoluminescents company (thats glow in the dark). They have provided me with some samples of possible materials for the marking disk that glow in the dark.

One drawback to having a glow in the dark marking disk, which is the colour of the disk in daylight is slightly tinted green. Its not flourescent green or anything, but it has a slight tinge of green.

When its in the dark though, it reallllly glows, no problem seeing your focus marks on it in the dark, or even in limited light.

I think a photoluminescent marking disk is a nice idea, it wont drain the batteries and is more cost effective than an electronic backlight.

I do have some glowing plastic that is white in daylight, but it does not glow very strongly, so its abit of a tradeoff.

Dont forget that glow int eh dark stuff charges up when its under light, then gives the energy back when its dark, so if you are using the unit in a light place (dosnt have to be very bright, just normal room light levels) for afew hours, itw ill glow brightly in the dark for afew hours.

Cool! I would not mind a greenish disc, if I get that glow in the dark feature for it.

This is getting better with every post. Can´t wait to get my hands on it.

Just ventured into the only properly dark room int he houes (downstairs bathroom) and im pretty proud of the effect of a glow in the dark marking ring. Its white in daylight, and glows greenish in the dark. You can see the pen marks on it with no problems, and you can see the pointer marker easily too. It wipes clean, and best of all - its not radioactive.

Excellent.

I'm late posting to this but please count me in for one! I operate steadicam as well and have been waiting on the RR remote focus for ages.

Please put me on you res list.

Cheers!

Some updates:

The Hocus Focus is now working, wirelessly, with all its functions. Just got to do some PCB manufacturing to get the circuit into the case. I have pasted some photos of the new receiver unit. Please bare in mind, I cut this by hand, so its abit wonky, and the overall finish is abit tatty in places. Obviously the production version will be CNC cut and screen printed, and wont look tatty at all.

The rocker switch is the on/off and it doubles as selector for battery/external power.

Get ready for some nice new photos:

WOW amazing! I am really amped for this product as I'm in need of this with my new Flyer LE.

Keep up the great work!

Great job, Pete! It doesn't look wonky or tatty at all! Well done!

Maybe i see it from a precision engineers point of view, but to me it looks wonky and tatty haha.

Just been over to see the coding guy, and the code works properly. Ive now got an RX and TX chip, ready to go into the first prototype PCBs which I will make in the next few days.

The motor mount is due in from the machine ship in the next week, and im going to do the 1/4-20 mounting threads tomorrow.
