New Logo - Need Critiques

Well, if you want to HEAR what I think you will have to wait until tomorrow when I can record it and upload it for you. But, until then, you can READ what I think:

I like it. I think I would like to see more done with the letters but, then again, I like simple too.

I like the color and the lens flash. The letters seem too flat to me. Maybe the font I don't like, but I like it simple as well.

Wow! That's A LOT of lens flare effect. Maybe add some motion to it so that it crosses the screen instead of it just staying in one place and flashing.

Or maybe just design a logo without the lens flare effect. To me Lens Flare was always a sign of an amateur designer. It's typically the first effect used by Photoshop noobs.

Keep creating! Good luck!

I second that.

I can agree with PK that there should be some movement in your lens flares, but the first two pulses just don't work for me.

I guess I'm following the crowd here, too much lens flare. Lens flare's are the icing on the cake not the meat and potatoes. If you must build the logo design around a lens flare at least use something other than the default lens flare. Knoll light factory offers a ton of different types of flares.

thanks guys, I really can't change the font or just would not like to due to the fact that font has been used as my logo since I've had my logo with that font for 3 years now and really would not like to change it. I agree about something needs to happen with the words instead of it already being there. Just trying to figure that part out. And yea, it could be too long, too boring, but i'm making some others like the basic lens where it goes from one side to the other.

But just like that logo since I've had that in mind for years and didn't know how to use AE and now do :)

A great logo should be able to be PRINTED in black and white. You can take a great design and sweeten it up with motion graphics and all kinds of goodies. I think having a stronger design would help.
I am with PK and the others, Lens Flare, Drop Shadows, and Beveled edges are the low hanging fruit of the design world. Also AE has probably the worst lens flare of any desktop compositor. There are many cooler lens flares out there if you are absolutely married to this concept.

You are on the right track. You had the guts to put your work at there and have others critique it. That takes a lot. In my humble opinion a funky font and a lens flare does not make a logo. It makes a afternoon class at the community college.

Good Luck with Everything. Perhaps extending your knowledge of After Effects would give you a broader toolset to explore your ideas. There are tons of great AE tutorials out there. Andrew Krammer's is probably the most known. Check him out at www.videocopilot.net

I think the logotype is basically okay but undistinguished.

I hate to say that I don't care for the motion-graphic, at all. Whether it actually is or not, it feels like a default out-of-the-box lens flare that anyone could have set up and pushed the 'render' button. It doesn't build to anything.

In truth I believe that you would be better served by the simple fade-up/fade down on the static white text, than what you have right now.

I wish I could make some actual useful suggestions instead of just gripe, but alas it's been a hell week and I find that all of my creativity is lying in a puddle on my desk at the office.

Jason - low-hanging fruit of the design world - that's good. I'm stealing it.

Jason, yea Andrew Kramer is great! Found out about him sometime this summer but great tutorials!

As far as what i'm seeing for the critiques. I'm still thinking on something that could make everyone's minds change a little bit. In the meantime I made another. It's the same length just did something with the text this time.

Here is the original logo I have always used.

the faunt is to plain . and i don,t like the -direct,write,produce,film,edit,act,(we will even do your taxes)- approach. one lens flair is enough.

My banner doesn't need a critique man. And let me just say one thing about the font. I'm sorry everyone hates it or dislikes it, but that's going to be the font. The definition of logo is (on Wikipedia): "A logo is a graphical element, that, together with its logotype form a trademark or commercial brand." so technically that is a logo and that's fact. And why wouldn't people take the logo seriously? For example people takes the "Red Cross" logo more seriously than any other company and it's a basic design. So my point is, just because something is "easy" to make doesn't make you an amateur. Look at Microsoft too, they had a black text: "MICROSOFT" with a white background as one of their first logos.

If you want to be known for the rest of your career as bland and unimaginative, by all means, keep it till the very end. I would just like to point out, that almost everyone who has been around for a while has changed up to stay fresh. Look at Coke, NBC, and even MacDonalds. And sorry if that sounded harsh, it was just straight forward advice.

Oh, no offense taken. I mean I would love to keep that logo for as long as it can go. Just you can play around with it but still keep it the same.. i.e. Lucas Arts logo is always the same but it can have some cool animation to it but it always ends up the same when the animation ends.

But yet, Greedo shoots first, the first movie is suddenly the fourth... but the Logo is the same ;)

I'm perpetually baffled by people who start threads asking for reactions to their logo or logotype, and failing to harvest a page of breathless praise, immediately plant their feet on some variation of screw you guys, I'm not changing it.

I'm done wasting time with threads where people ask this sort of question.

All of you out there, every last one of you, has the very bestest imaginable logo conceivable in a universe set up according to presently-known physical laws. All of your logos are so blindingly excellent that I have to keep eyedrops by my keyboard when I open the threads to view them. All of your logos will doubtless soon attract George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Jeff Katzenberg and Uwe Boll to your door, begging for access to your talent based solely upon your logos themselves.

Really.

People on this site who actually design logos - among other things - professionally, and might be able to offer what we so naively hope may be useful suggestions, should just go back to our offices, collect our paychecks, attend our screenings, and mind our own collective damned business.

And yes, your logo and everything about it are the finest things I have ever seen. Please ignore my previous post; I must have had something in my eye when I wrote it, earlier.
