Check out my new short

Let's see:

Visuals: Top Notch
Audio: Top Notch
Story: Top Notch
Acting: Top Notch

It really was absolutely brilliant!
Question: What shotgun mic did you use?

Well Done!

Thanks

We used a Sennheisr MKH-60. We had a real nightmare with sound as there was a barking dog, children leaving school and then a few doors down decided to have a big party (which you can hear under the long scene in profile at the end - the audio there is all from a strategically placed radio mic).

Quite big chunks of the film had to be ADR'd which was all done through the MKH-60.

Yes...It was intentional in that whilst shooting we realised we were about to "break the rules" but figured rules are meant to be broken and we hoped it would add to the disorientation anyway. I don't think it throws you as the audience particularly??

Brits always tell great stories! It was excellent. Congrats to your actors, they were tops. I guess you were not using a lens adapter, right? Job very well done.

There you go again. A great piece of work without the need of an adapter. It can be done and it is been done by very skilled and talented pros. Congrats one more time!

To all of those interested, we're planning to do some more work on the film and re-shoot a couple of things.

1) We're going to reshoot the profile shot, just after bag comes off her head. We want this shot to be rock steady on a tripod as it will help the subtitles which we can then place centrally between the two of them.

2) From the scene where Ernest is lying in bed and he looks up and sees Angela watching him. We're going to re-do the close-up of her and make it more beautiful pop a keylight in her eyes and seperate her from the background. Generally make it a more beautiful shot.

3) The wide profile where Angela is in the wheelchair and Ernest is sitting in front of her. This scene has terrible sound (the bass from party next door, is driving me insane!!!!) so we're trying to decide whether to reshoot it or ADR the whole scene.

4) The scene at the end (front-on) for the same reason as number 1. I think it'll work better if we frame it with a better idea of how the subtitles sit. I may experiment with stabalizing this footage around the subtitles before we shoot it?? We may shoot into the next scene too as there is a bit of ugly camera movement there. This really depends on the actors and whether they can hit the level of performance again.

I think this will make for a much stronger film. Hope you all agree!!!

Dude... Seriously.... Why isn't this in a theater somewhere? I would have gladly paid to see something of this caliber. Sure there are things that may bother you, the film maker, but you more than succeeded in telling in a compelling story. Wow.

Let us know how the re-shoots go...

wow.................................Everything about that was amazing. I have so many emotions running through me, I'm awestruck. Beautiful work, thanks for posting

I usually stop watching shorts like this after the first 30 seconds, but I was hooked from the start. You really have something here. GREAT ACTING, loved the long takes, this is definitely a gem.

good short man, how did you shoot the scene with the bag over the head and being safe at the same time? did she just have to hold her breath?

shooting with the bag wasn't such a big deal, we had holes in the back of it but as she was sucking the bag in to her mouth it wasn't particularly helpful. Basically we kept the takes short and she just held her breath.

Just got back from the reshoots, all went well!!! The scene we reshot for sound reasons was again interupted, this time by a truck dropping its load right outside the window!!!! We managed to get the scene eventually! We were beginning to feel that we'd never get the scene.

As we locked off the shot we went in real close with the boom and shot a plate which we will use to remove the boom and sound-man...should be interesting!!!!

 Easy as pie, as long as he wasn't doing shadow puppets behind your talents heads. Can't wait to see what you've done.
