Having trouble figuring out timelapse on HVX...

I realize there are likely threads on this and couldn't find what I was looking for. Basically, I've gone through the manual, etc and can't seem to figure out how to do real time lapse on my HVX. The options in the menu that I think I need to choose are 'greyed out' and I can't figure out why the **** why!?!?!? Please help, need to figure out ASAP. Wanted to do in in any of the formats, preferably 720pn. Possible?

Cheers

You need to set the camera to 'video', not film.
That gives you access to 'interval' setting and then to the actual interval you want (5sec, 10sec or whatever).

As a side note, I ran into a problem last weekend shooting interval. I set the camera correctly (actually 3 cameras) and checked back to see if it was recording frames every so often (at least 20 times overall). Everything looked fine.
When everything was finished, one of the cameras showed a corrupted file with a little red 'x'. The video was unusable - I almost lost the job over this.
My lesson was that even when everything looks ok, it may not be.
So now, when I shoot interval, I actually stop camera and check the video every so often (once every hour or two) to make sure the shot is being recorded. You will have have several takes doing this, but they look just as lovely and you know the files are good.

good luck!

You have to be in VIDEO CAM mode, and you cannot be in 24pN mode. Then you can set the REC FUNCTION to "INTERVAL" and do what you want.

Next time check the files in the camera before you dump or use the p2 viewer utility... if there's a red x just repair the clip and then dump.... maybe it was unrepairable but most times the red x can be fixed.

Also I used 30i for my time lapse sections and 24pn for my green screen footage and it worked out just fine.

ya, I tried to repair the clip with no luck. thanks for bringing that up as I forgot to mention it.

by the way, does anyone know what may have caused the failure?
I've tried to reproduce the problem by changing up the settings and such, but was unable to make it happen again.

I'd love to know what happened so I can avoid doing it again, or at least, be aware of its existence and know to keep an eye out for the problem.

Thanks

when you have the camera set to 720p/24pn, you are not able to change the 'Rec Function' to interval.
To get access to the interval shooting menu option, you have to be in either 30p, 30i or 60i.

I think what THX was saying is that he mixed some (greenscreen) footage shot in 24pn with some other timelapse footage shot in 30i in the same project. I have done the same thing and used them together with no problems.
