RedRock Mattebox videos

I got 3 or four donuts with the Matte box but not sure which one would work for a stock HVX as the 82mm is rather big can anyone shed some light?

By the way my matte box Came in and I have yet to purchase my rails, anyone in the NY area can pm and test it out at their convince...

Jeff, give me a shout, We should get together and compare adapters.
Which achromats do you have for the Ultimate - will it work with the EX-1?

Hi Lenny,

I received a 72mm mount today, a 77mm should arrive soon, as well as the Letus V2 Rods. I have the HVX200 Optimization kit, but I've been told that the achromat works great with an EX-1 as well. Just let me know if you want to check out my
Ultimate with your EX-1--would love to get your feedback!

Jeff - not till after next week. The question is - who's going to travel - San Rafael or Foster City?

I believe the largest of the 4 is the one for the HVX lens. Mine has been connected to a Letus Extreme since I got it but it looks like the large one should fit the bare camera.

I get a mattebox today, its on the fedex van for delivery. Unfortunatly Im away from home, so I had to phone up the next door neighbour and ask her nicely to stick a note on the door with a forged signiture so they can deliver it to her instead :-D

When did you place your order? I placed mine April 18th. Haven't received any shipping confirmation.

Feel like I'm being punished. This is such a load of BS.

Jeff,

I'm pretty confused by this HVX200 vs EX-1 optimization business.
My experience with the Ex-1 had been that at first everybody said their adapters worked with the Ex-1 and there was lots of talk on the web in particular about how great the Extreme was with the Ex-1 . Then I got it and it sucked. You needed to be at f8 to get your corners in focus. So then Letus changed the achromat and came out with the Ex-1 optimization and they did a great job - you can use it with your Ex-1 wide open. I asked Letus how that would be on an HVX and they said great it worked for both.
Then I started hearing about the new HVX optimization achromat and how much better that was for the HVX - so I started wondering - what gives - is the HVX kit better than my Ex-1 achromat? If so , howcome I was told its great for both. If another achromat is better - than the previous one isn't great - it must have had flaws which always means focus problems.
Now your saying that the HVX optimization is supposed to be great for the EX-1 also.
Either they are the same achromat with just a different adapter ring (possible) - or someone is being less than completely straight.
I don't want to throw any stones . I like these guys a lot I just would like to know what's going on .

Lenny,

Not to turn this thread into a Letus thread(plenty of those already), but Hien told
me a couple of days ago that the new Letus achromat is the best one out there
and is great for ALL cameras. The only difference between HVX and EX-1 optimization kits is the ring, not the achromat.

Perhaps when I come up to Marin, I should bring an HVX200A with me as well?

Really looking forward to the RR Micro Matte Box and Letus B4 Relay--hoping both
are worth the wait!

Well that totally explains it. Glad I didn't start throwing stones. It was pretty confusing for awhile though. I've got both rings so I'm set at least until I can afford an Ultimate.

New Shipping Dates: by August 4th for reservation holders.

Ah, those misty memories of July 10th seem so long ago. But the delivery of 60 days within of ordering in those jejune days of mid April were just a dream deferred. Could August 4th yet another morsel of hope, to gnash our teeth upon come August 5th.

*June* 10th was the original 'outside' shipping date for the flurry of orders that were lumped together as April 15th immediately after the announcement they were finally taking orders. That would have been the "up to 40 business days" thing, or an actual 56 days.

August 4, if they make it, in their ongoing tragicomedy of errors (and I wouldn't bet yesterday's newspaper on it) would be 112 days, exactly twice the original estimate.

I should add that I've had my Mattebox for a few days now, and it's great - credit where credit's due, I repeat - it's great. But the fact that so many reservation holders are still waiting after countless blown delivery targets is simply inexcusable.

So...great products and insanely out of whack production/management seems to be what the 'spade' is called here. Very sad...

One would have to be looking for a dramatic reversal of this in the future if confidence in the company is to be restored. It'll take something darn near perfection in this particular area of weakness to do it I'm afraid. I anticipate their upcoming Remote FF announcement with a mixture of excitement and dread...

Woo Hoo! Just got my confirmation #. Santa's a little late, but I'll have my nose pressed against the window, waiting for the delivery elf. My gig for New Orleans due to inclement hurrican weather got pushed, so now I'll have time to configure it. Will give a full report.

No more subrentals!!

amazing that just great! . it is like buying you girlfriend a set of boobs and for 111 days she just emails you pictures of them . and then everyone gives them a great review.

It's worse. It's like having your girlfriend with her great boobs, spending time with everyone else before getting round to you. But as soon as you see that set, all transgressions are forgotten....well, not really.

If you order the RR MicroMatte Box with three or four stages, does that make it
well endowed?

I had to wait two weeks for my matte box, it shipped yesterday! I thought it would be much longer, but once RR finally got ramped up with production and
shipping, I lucked out. Wish I could say the same for the Letus Ultimate B4 Relay.

Thanks for the great review of the Ultimate and the MicroMatte Box, Tim.
