I'm very interested in shooting custom stuff for features, commercials and music vids. If anyone is working on medium+ sized projects (major-label music vids, features with distribution locked, etc) and you think your production could benefit from some timelapses sequences, please let me know and I will come out and shoot for free. I just ask that it's a real project and that you cover gas and all that. I'm in So Cal.

Recently a couple of my shots were used in the Sony-BMG Daughtry video "Feels Like Tonight."

Thanks!

Would I be correct in assuming that each of those shots was a composite of two different time lapses?

Excellent visuals regardless!

What kind of equipment are you using?

EDIT: Just checked your site. Is the motion control system you use capable of more complex movement than pan/track control?

right now I can only move the camera on one axis - pan or tilt. but soon i will mores axes, including dolly.

there is no compositing or fx work at all in any of these shots. it's all pure photography done on a canon 350D DSLR.

Wow really? In some shots the sun and the stars are both out simultaneously. The desert looking scene with the sunset on the horizon especially puzzles me. How is this done with out layering one time lapse over another? Are the exposure times long enough to make the moonlight look like the sun is passing over?

I have always been interested in timelapse photography, and also the motion systems. I used to do a lot of stop-motion animation, and always had to simulate tracking or panning by moving the camera by hand. It worked, but it was never fluid like your shots.

Yeah, three of those shots actually include the moon, which tends to look like the sun while in frame.

what shutter speed would pick up the stars with the still camera and how do you program your still camera to shoot at reg intervals ? my canon 5d i would have to click the shutter manually every minute? how many gigs are the cards. 12mp? very cool!!!

shutter speed depends on the amount of moonlight, the f/stop, the ISO, etc. For that last shot I posted of the mountains, I was at ISO800, f/2, with 30s exposures and 5s intervals between shots. to take timelapses like this, you need an intervalometer for your 5D - something like the Canon TC80-N3.
