Who here HASN'T been to film school?

I haven't, and I was wondering if I had brethren in this territory? I had a whopping 2 classes during my college Communication curriculum. I learned the bare basics of Final Cut Express, and the highlight being filming college football games from the sidelines with a Canon GL2 hooked to a Steadicam that hurt my back after 3 hours. It was enough to open my eyes to this world and hook me for life, no matter how broke I become.

So, here I am, DVX in one hand, Final Cut Pro tutorials in the other, attempting to sort my way through a ton of information.

Anyone else?

No film school here. Some say it is needed, others not. I have just finished a feature that IMO would have been better with 4 years of schooling under my belt. but what ever. It still came out Okay.
www.myspace.com/themovietorn Just a bunch of random images and most are not that Great but I did it and I am proud of it.

Learned the ins and outs of camera operation, movement and studio operations/engineering while volunteering for a regional community broadcaster before it turned into a job. Then, I became a computer person and did video production on the side as a hobby, which led to working on reasonably well-funded documentary films in the last few years.

No film schooling at all. Just picked up a video camera for the very first time around three years ago. The cheap camcorder type. I've only used a professional camera once, not for my own work though. Happened to be a DVX.

Self taught on Premiere Pro as well. Started out on 1.5, using CS3 now.
I would love to get my hands on Final Cut!

Cheers,

Mike

Started learning everything I know today when I was about 13 or so, spent my childhood on the computer learning how they work, video software, 3d software, etc. etc. 6 years later I got a job as Director of Media Production which I still hold and just 1 year ago started doing prep for my first feature that I'm shooting now.

So glad I had no childhood lol...

Just so you know, you need not pine for Final Cut. It's the buzz program and what they use in the business but I have used them both...they are the same thing wrapped in a slightly different package. So, if you have Premiere CS3...be happy. Its a great program.

Never been to film school myself, but worked as a teacher for Editing and Postproduction for 3 years in a film school.

What I'm not happy with is that I bought the Mac version and it crashes every few minutes. I kid you not! The help line has been useless!

1.5 ran like a dream on my PC but CS3 was never properly developed for the Mac, it was a port.

Been accepted to many, never had the balls to go. By balls I mean money. So I bought a camera, a bunch of books and here I am. I have had interviews on CBC radio, hosted an international film festival in my town and am making short films. Its all about motivation. Which I need more of.
