Business Card - Opinions wanted

Hey everybody, I'm getting some business cards made and the company that is making them for me sent me a proof and I just wanted to get some opinions on it before I approve it or make suggestions for changes. The cards are translucent plastic. Thanks

I like it a whole lot. The only thing I might do is to bring the film strip and newfocalmedia a tad more to the right. But thats just a *might*. They look freaking awesome though. Really love the translucent design and rounded corners.

I was checking into getting translucent cards made before ... what company are you using?

And, yes, love the design. Perfect

Oh... I've already started that! But the real question is, can I use your business card as a screen in my DOF adapter. (See accompanying "So... I've got another 35mm Adapter!!!" thread).

They only thing I don't like about the plastic card is that you can't make a note on the back of it, otherwise it looks great.

I have a slightly different perspective. Sure, the card is cool and all. However, I'd worry about handing out a card like that. It's "too much" in a way. You know how some folks hand you a screenplay and it has these elaborate multi-colored covers with fancy typesetting and even graphics... yeah, you get a bad feeling, as these scripts are invariably unreadable and the writers are hacks of the worst kind. Now, the world of business cards is considerably more varied and there aren't the same strict conventions, but there are limits here too... and again, I've often had bad experiences with folks who have super fancy business cards - it's as if they are compensating for actual ability (which they are in short supply of), are overly self-involved and generally not focused on their work as much as on their image (same as some folks like "being a writer" more than actual writing). Personally, I prefer the simplest business cards. They don't have to be drab - good paper, good choice of font, and simple direct spare information... all to the point: that says to me "professional". So cool as it is, I wouldn't want a card like that for myself.

Now, I'm sure this will not dissuade anyone from going for the fancy card - and I have to admit, the card is super cool. Just something else to keep in mind. What effect do you want when you hand in the card - first feeling "wow, cool card" and seconds later a warning bell, or...

Anyhow, one man's opinion, no biggie - just a different perspective - I'm sure others will have the opposite feeling. YMMV - and all IMHO.

I can see that perspective, but since it's advertising a company that specializes in creative digital video I believe it shows the client that they are dealing with a company that places high value on presentation and creativity and shows that it won't be cutting any corners on providing the client with a polished finished product.

Now if I needed a good lawyer and the company handed over that same business card I would feel much they way you do about screen writers with fancy looking screenplays. Everyone knows with screen writing, the only thing that matters is that it's a great screenplay. However, with video production it's not enough for a company to just show up with great equipment and video something. No matter how great the footage is, if all the presentation details aren't top notch (scripting, scheduling, producing, editing, final packaging, etc.), the client won't be thrilled with their project. So I guess what I'm getting at is that for my particular company I feel that this card says what I want it to, but if you change a few variables the same card could say something completely else.

Love the card, and as far as being to much, I don't think so. In a visual medium you kinda want something that has a dope aesthetic. Simple and striking! And also we work in a long term business and when that person you met way back when who is finally ready to do something is probably gonna pick out that card as one of the people he wants to check out more and if your quality/price/availibilty meet his, you are golden. It's all about sticking out... for the right reason, that card is a good start.

I'll take the 4am opening.

Uh oh...... umm yeaaaa that's not my real number, errrr i mean..... luckily i'm on the west coast so those calls will come in at only midnight or 1 or so.....
