Grainy footage...what's the culprit?

I shot outside on a beach and ended up with grainy footage. I'd like to fix it in FCP but, before I do I was wondering if you all could tell right off what the culprit is?

I have a DVX100b. It was a bright day. What function of the camera went wrong?

I will take any advice on how to fix this (esp. if you know FCP tricks).

I don't remember as I have made changes to the camera since this incident.
I was wondering if it was a gain issue.
Do you know if there's anyway to correct this in FCP?

Definitely a gain issue. There's not a whole lot you can do to fix in FCP... do you have After Effects?

In FCP, lay the footage in the timeline, copy it and paste another channel right on top of it. Add some sort of diffusion, or blur to the top layer. Bring down the opacity until it looks good. It should help reduce the grain a bit.

EDIT: should have said paste another TRACK, not channel. My bad.

I will take any advice I can...thanks you guys!
When you say "another channel", what does mean? I am bit FCP illiterate.

first off, how grainy is it? Do you have any grabs from the footage? What are you using as a monitor? The reason I ask is because dvx footage is 480p and viewing it on an hd monitor, it is going to look quite grainy. My laptop monitor is only 1280x800 and dvx footage full screen is full of grain.

something to consider

I FIXED IT! Thanks everyone!
I tried Ryan Brown's idea out and it def helped the footage look less grainy.
