Recently finished a really cute music video for Montreal's Hexes and Ohs. Video was shot on a stock HVX.

Video can be seen on Cravefest - If you like it, please do rate & vote for it.
Feedback, as always, is greatly appreciated.

It looks like you put a lot of effort into this video, especially in the editing -- and it shows. I think the song is catchy, and it's always good to hear new music from the homeland (expat Canadian in the US, here). My only comment, is that the slow bouncing of the video bothered me a bit. I think you got away with it, but if the effect was a little less pronounced it would have been more pleasing to my eye.

Thanks for sharing!

wow, that was really awesome! - Did you shoot in 720 or 1080? And is that 24p?

Great work!

Man.. that's an all round great piece. Seems like a totally realized piece from the music through the whole thing. Of course my pigish male thinking is hope for a hotter chick, but other than that. This is a great piece of work. The band should be totally happy.

hi there,

the style of the video actually really fits the song really well, Looks like the pre production work was done very well,

good job,

Derrick

good work. would love to see BTS stuff if you have any. Light set up etc. The wobble of the camera IMO seems to be an expression used in AE called wiggle and not how you recorded the video originally. great video. And who did the art work.

Thanks so much!! We shot the entire thing 720 @ 24p. I originally planned on shooting some of it at 1080 so that I can do some digital push ins, but due to the strict timeline we were on while on set I decided to just go with 720 the entire way through.

really nicely done.... who did the art?

Thanks! The art was actually done by the lead singer Edmund. He is a very talented artist. He sent me all the titles and I animated them within FCP. You can check out his some of his artwork at: http://www.gigposters.com/designer/17384_Edmund_Lam.html

i freakin' loved it! i love all your videos, though. <3

any BTS photos??
Much thanks... that's always encouraging to hear. I will post some BTS shots soon... I'm quite happy with the fact that I actually have some behind the scenes stuff to show (I often neglect to bring aboard a stills photographer on set... but this time we had one... I am very happy)

Thanks!. The camera effect was done in AE actually, using a wiggle preset (although I imagine the preset merely uses the same expression) I felt the video needed some movement, which is why i went for the effect. Good call!!

Fun fact, the "bridge" section in the video, where the background is black and different patterns expose the band, was all done on set. I pre-made some animations using some of Edmund's illustrations, and projected it onto the band using a regular presentaion projector (hooked up to a laptop). That was fun... I'm really getting into more practical effects. Mind you this particular effect looks like it was done is post, so it didn't come off exactly as desired.. you live and learn I suppose.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!! As I mentioned before, feel free to vote for the video HERE

Aloni,

Question: Do you edit on a Mac Pro? I'm trying to decide on whether to get a Mac pro or if an iMac is good enough for HD editing.

That was great! Seriously. A fun, well made video.
I didn't mind the wobble/wiggle. I think you made the right choice to use it.
The editing was slicker than slick, and the art was amazing!
Two thumbs up for sure! Well done! I'm running out of exclamation points.

Aloni,

Question: Do you edit on a Mac Pro? I'm trying to decide on whether to get a Mac pro or if an iMac is good enough for HD editing.

Depends on a few things. If you're simply looking to edit DVCPRO HD or HDV then an imac would do the job. However, if you're planning on ever going passed these formats and into uncompressed footage then a Mac Pro is a must.

Also, eventhough the recent iMacs have enough horesepower to edit DVCPRO HD and HDV, they are still only dual core systems. If you plan on doing any H.264 encoding using compressor, having an 8-core beast like the Mac Pro would speed things up immensly.

If you can afford it, then definitly go for the Mac Pro. If you're hoping to evolve with video technology as it progresses, then it'll definitly last you longer than an imac, which eventually will not be able to keep up. (mac pro= upgradabiliy)

Hope this helps.

Great job !

I loved the song and the video. Always refreshin to see something different than 98% of what is being done out there. Reminded me of the old new wave (Sparks?) stuff.
