the film OWARD TO KIRSTY'S

i've made another one of these vignettes following my father. this time we follow him and the rest of the family through some industrial areas of melbourne

shot on the DVX100/SGpro with 35mm f1.4 AI, 50mm f2 pre-AI and 85mm f2 AIS

That looked nice for being really dreary out. Are you in the backseat of the car? I have to try that. I always end up in the front passenger seat when I want to shoot while driving and I am always really cramped. I like the OTS shot at like 1:55, real cool

Footage looks great. 35mm lens adapters really help give the dvx a more filmy look. I have to cheaply achieve the same thing right now with magic bullet filters. What's the cost of a set like you have, and what is the name of the band and song you used in your video?

steven - thanks man. yeah i'm in the back seat. that shot at 1:55 was with a 35mm lens. the front of the rails were resting on the shoulder of the front passenger's seat. you should really get a wide angle lens to compliment your 50mm so you're not so cramped.

i've got a 28mm f2.8 and i find it a bit too wide. it doesn't look distorted or anything, just most of the time it doesn't feel natural to me. and it's slow and vignettes a bit :)

i'd recommend a 35m f2 AI or AIS. i've been trying to find a cheap second hand one to replace my 35mm f1.4 AI with. the focus ring on the f1.4 is way to stiff to shift focus during a shot

josh - yes it's the cure! :)

the cost...

sgpro (non flip as i use a magnet) with nikon mount and rails was about $1400 US including shipping and duty and tax in australia

then my lens set - all second hand

28mm f2.8 - got off my bother inlaw
35mm f1.4 AI - $200
50mm f2 pre AI - $100
85mm f2 AIS - $400 (would be about half this price in the US)
135mm 2.8 - off my brother inlaw

i only really use the 50, 35 and 85. and in that order.

and that's it. i don't have a follow focus or an external monitor or shoulder mount... though i would like all of those things

It looked nice. I need another lens, just don't have the money. I don't know how you shoot without support. It was such a pain for me to shoot the first few days with the dvx/sgpro on the rails. Made my hands hurt. Got Cavision shoulder and hand support off ebay for cheap. They are not great but its easier to hold (for a little bit longer)
