XHA1 + Ikan V8000HD settings question

I just received my ikan monitor and I was wondering if anybody has any recommendations as far as settings are concerned to be able to match the monitor with the cam's lcd. I know that the ikan wont be able to match the colors exactly (according to another thread i read) and that it isn't reliable for color monitoring, but maybe by adjusting brightness contrast settings, it'll be close enough. Can anybody share their settings?

Also, it seems that the monitor actually displays less of the frame compared to the stock LCD. I positioned it so I could just see some space above an object that I was focused on and on the Ikan, there was no space at all. I thought that because the monitor has overscan, I'd be able to see more of the image versus that displayed on the LCD?

Anybody care to learn me on this one?

Overscan means that you can see less, underscan displays the whole frame. I just don't bother with the brightness and contrast in general, neither the LCD nor the Ikan are accurate.

Hey Huy. Quick to reply as always.

So if I see less on the monitor, how do I make sure I'm not getting any vignetting with a 35mm adapter?

I would plug the camera into the computer with a firewire, turn on your NLE and monitor through the capture window. That way you're assured that you're seeing the whole image.

The other issue with the Ikan HD monitor is it's not showing a correct 16:9 aspect ratio.

As for calibration, just try and arrive at something close to what your built in lcd shows.

I use the Ikan. I haven't been bothered by it's color because I am pretty good at judging color, and I always make adjustments in post.

Regarding framing, I frame for 2.35:1 and so I always know where my top and bottom are, and can imagine what's on the edges.

I actually did notice that the Ikan seems to have a very slightly squashed image (but u'd have to inspect it pretty closely) vs the LCD, but I dont find it a problem at all (or at least I havent encountered a situation yet where that would be an issue). With my budget, the monitor works fine for me.

Two reasons why I got the monitor was for (1) focusing and (2) framing and number 2 doesn't seem to be solved, in fact, with the overscan it seems to have made a turn for the worst. But I do find focusing easier. And if I could just get the colors to match the LCD everything will be fine. Still waiting for UPS to deliver the SGpro so I can put everything to the test.

I tend to do a lot of adjustments in post too but it wouldn't be such a bad thing to at least get the LCD and monitor to match.

The one thing that really bothers me is the wiggling when the monitor is on the camera shoe and you're panning or tilting. At first I thought it was my camera shaking on the tripod but I realized it was the shoe adapter that goes with the Ikan.
