Is the DVX100A/B old school now?

isn't the hpx 20,000 dollars? i dont know why anyone would spend 20 grand on the hpx when they can spend the same money on the red one, which is absolutley a better camera. have you thought of buying the red one?

20 grand for an HPX is a lot, but the red one body is almost 18 000. With all the accesories it will be 30 or 40 easily.

The HPX170 is 5995 list. If I were going to drop 20 to 30grand it would red for sure.
Iraq if fragments was amazing to watch. They did an insane dv to 35mm transfer on that one. I think I will try that on location as well. I'm still fairly new at this, and the dvx still blows me away at times, but so did my ps2.

What blows me away is how much more latitude the HVX and other HD cam equivalents have. I have only 2 gripes about the DVX, Latitude and the amount I can push in post. Its not the DVX fault, its MiniDv's fault with its compression, I dont even mind shooting in SD, but I really need that extra latitude and ability to play in post. Also I would like somthing less noisy. I love my dvx, but there are some pretty blatant reasons to go hd, at least in my eyes.

You don't have to use mini dv tapes at all. You can record straight to HD if you want. You can push it all you want in post. Check out LAND OF PLENTY, it was bumped up to digibeta, graded in a DaVinci and looks as cinematic as anything yet shot with an HVX. Not that the HVX isn't a great camera...
