Vegas 8.0 does not detect XH-A1!

When I connect my XhA1 to my computer via fire wire my computer does not recognize the camera. I can't capture any footage through vegas 8.0 either. However, when I connect my GL2 same way, my computer recognizes it quickly.

Whether it's SD or HD no matter what the settings, I can't get it to detect it. If anyone can help me out it would be fantastic. I am about to lose my mind.

I must be doing something wrong.

Thank you so much,
John

I know Vegas has two capture modes... You may double check those... Make sure you are trying to capture HDV not SD... If you are not prompted when you click 'capture video'... Click under the options "Use External Video Capture Application" under the video options tab...

If the computer itself is not recognizing the A1 in HD mode... Go to the hardware manager and look for exclamation points... If you see one that says something Canon... Uninstall it and then click scan for hardware changes... It should install without issue....

A third option is to go download the trial version of the Canon Console software... It will install some additional drivers that your system may need... I think on one system I had a similar issue and that helped me out...

I've transfered 7 HDV tapes shot on a XHA1, with the XHA1, into Vegas8 a few months ago. I don't remember anything special I had done to make it work.
On the capture dialogue box it asks you to check "DV" or "HDV/SDI," also there is a "Always use the selected format" button. Maybe you pressed that and you no longer get the option. But it says you can change it in the preferences dialog.

I have problems with Vegas recognizing my CAM since I stumbled over the fire-wire cable. When I connect my A1 to the PC and start Vegas capture, I have to push the fire-wirre cable firm into the A1 connection and jigle it a little to let vegas see the Cam.
