i'm trying to just get a simple answer to the question -

what is the minimum hardware i will have to get, (if i have an hvx, p2 cards and fcp on my mac pro) in order to get the HD data and footage from my p2 cards into fcp?

and what is the rough price?

thanks so much

Well as a minimum that's pretty much it. You can attach the camera and it will appear as a volume on your desktop. It will be a fairly slow transfer compared to say a P2 Drive and you won't be able to shoot while you do but that would do it. Otherwise I'd consider the Duel Adapter:

thats cool thanks
how come i keep hearing that the hvx requires all this extra investment to get your footage in, damn

One 4pin->6pin 1394a (firewire) cable: $10

A nice solution is a computer with a PCMIA slot,
if you want to get a little fancier. Barry Green did
a nice summary of this.

cool thanks
so then in otherwords there are no differences in additional costs to get the footage to the NLE between the hvx and the sony pmw ex1. the only difference is maybe costs of a firestore unit if you choose to go that way?

The extra investment comes in when you DON'T want to use the camera. If you have a MacBook Pro, the DuelSystems Adapter is the ticket. If you have a Powerbook G4, like me, then the slot is built in. If you have a Tower only, then you need other options, like the P2 Gear.
