Marketplace Improvement Suggestion Thread

i'm sure there are people on this site that for whatever reason do not want others to know who they are. someone who is actually known in the real world outside of dvxuser may value the anonymity this site provides. that's why i don't like the idea of real names for everyone.

The other thought I had is why not use a credit card for payment...at least then you'ld have recourse.

For the seller they could sign up for Google Checkout which is FREE to sign up then 2% + 20 cents of the transaction (I use it to bill corporate clients for projects). For a $1500 p2 card the transaction would be $30.20, which could be tacked onto the sell price to give the buyer some piece of mind.

For reference, Google Checkout keeps the credit card numbers private, they send the buyer an email for completion. They handle all that stuff, which would again ensure buyer/seller privacy with regards to CC Numbers.

Being able to see where a user hails from is helpful. That and the join date are my first check. Not everybody posts their home state which is a drawback.

I wouldn't mind having to use real names on this forum, like Dvinfo. I think a LOT of potential monkey-biz would be thwarted.

Also, it seems like more and more sellers are trying to duplicate ebay here by not stating initial asking prices, which I find highly annoying.

Thanks, Jason!

Count another vote for minimum post requirements.

100 posts seems very fair. It eliminates spam (which isn't that bad) and more importantly those who are not really a participant within the community.

I'm going to have to disagree with the post count. I've been a member here for a few years I believe, but haven't posted much. I actually stopped coming here when there was all the hype about The Red Camera, and I got pretty depressed, knowing I couldn't afford it, so I stopped visiting here until recently.

People may come here, like myself, just mainly to read and do research and learn. They may not post much even being a member for a few years. That shouldn't restrict someone. I don't have much to say to most people as I haven't been on here enough to spark any friendships, but I've been a member for awhile and read many posts. Just because my posts are low, I don't think it should restrict me.

I like the feedback system, but also allow the person who gets negative feedback to rebute the bad feedback they may get. That way, both sides are out in the open, and a potential buyer can make up their own mind. Someone stated a thread that could made into a sticky called "sellers," where people can leave feedback, and the seller can refute the negative ones. One or two negative feedbacks are acceptable, but if it becomes common practice, the potential buyer will know when to stay away.

I agree. The thing I have always liked about market place was I new the price and didn't have to be in a bidding war. First come First serve.

IP Logging is a good idea, but I wouldn't advertise it. It's easy enough to hide behind the TOR network or other proxies.

Agreed. I would count solely on ip logging, and address verification is a pain in the butt. I would keep it as the sellers responsibility to check it all out. Maybe a simpler public feedback place in the profile would be best?
