Canopus HQ and After Effects

I shoot with the HVX200, edit in Edius then export to AE via the Canopus HQ codec. However, once in AE, the footage is washed out. I know this has something to do with colour space, but need a good explanation and workflow suggestion.

(I'm in PAL land by the way)

Many thanks

First: why arent you updating to AE 8.02 or later..?
That would gibe you the opportunity to export your edius TL as AAF and import the AAF into AE and it would read the native .mxf!

Thats at least in theorie..this is supposed to be my workflow, but i havent seen it yet, as i was to busy to update AE...maybe others can comment..!?

Only thing i could explain for "wash out": Edius displays the colours different in TL, i guess there is some kind of overlay coming in..if you export with the right settings (quality) to HQ it should show you what you got in AE..thats my guess at least..!

I haven't been through this work flow yet, but a friend of mine recently had to go from Edius 4.6 to AE (don't know the version). He had several issues with incompatibility and bad crashes. The two programs just seems to work very poorly together. I think he ended up exporting his film as a a .tiff sequence and worked with approx. 21000 tiff pics in AE :S But he already had to do that for Shake, so it wasn't quite so inconvinient for him.
So from what I've heard: go another way or prepare for pain :)

What I've ended up doing is adding a levels adjustment in After Effects - doing all the work there - then before I export, I remove the levels adjustment. that seems to work. I don't know why though...
