I assume that this is a scam?

It's very simple really. Just call them and find out what the real deal is. They'll start with something like "well, that's the price for just the camera body - not the lens". Never mind that the HVX's lens is not detachable...

Right around then is when you'll put the phone back on the hook.

we think this has been covered way, way, way, WAY too many times already.

no dealer is going to sell a new, legitimate, non-stolen, hvx for less than about $4,000. it just aint gonna happen.

the people who fall for this are the same folks who fall for the "you have already won either a new mercedes s500, a six foot grandfather clock or a nintendo wii" only to find out that the grandfather clock is a 6' particleboard vinyl veneer shelf with a battery operated clock face on top

it's fun to talk to these guys actually. because they never really have any idea what they are talking about. i tried to place an order from express camera for an hvx just for the hell of it. they guy told me the lens wasn't included!!! how in the world could it not be?? hacksaw?

i once placed an order for a yamaha sound projector from fotoconnection.com. if you don't know, this is a kind of quasi-surround system that is self contained and mounts on your wall. lots of tiny speakers and a reciever/amp all built into one box.

the rep i talked to tried to sell me a bulb... for my projector... he said it comes with one but it only lasts a few weeks. i told him that this isn't that kind of projector and had to explain to him what he was selling me. then he tried to rook me for some overpriced speaker cables. i then had to explain again that this unit is self contained. just plug in your dvd player and go, no speaker cables necessary. finally when he couldn't think of any other crap he could possibly sell me he gave up and processed my order.

i did pay extra for overnight shipping yet it arrived 4 days late. i called for a refund of the shipping and they blew me off. but whatever, i saved like $400 so no biggie. i'm sure it was grey market - no warranty - and if i ever had a problem i would have been screwed but i never did... i guess i got lucky.

ha! thats great! ive always wanted to call one of these joints and do that just to see what they would say. we should all try to do it in september when the 170 comes out and wait for them to try and sell us tapes and a head-cleaner as well!

Happens all the time. But, anything south of say, $3500. is suspect. And also you'll notice $1,000. extended warranties and hundred dollar batteries from these super-low priced sellers.

.

Authorized dealers have to observe Panasonic's MAP policies.

So, anything below $4800 or so means not authorized.

you can try to buy it at that price and if you don't get it sue for false advertising. Tell them you just want the camera and nothing else.
