"RPDM" by Two Bears One Cup

Good point Jason, I thought that looked a little weird, but couldn't put my finger on it.

You are 'da man.

You need to be there next time I shoot something.

As I say: Rolling and Reviewing:

Intro sounds like a commercial for it. SHot so well so far. Haven't even hit one minute. The voice over was crazy. I loved the voice. And it's always the reverse engineering thing that messes things up. An orgasm for a day and a half is one of the many reasons I am jealous of girls. Seems like they have so much more fun...

And quite the insane concept. The body was done so well. Wow Mark, you are blowing me away so far. I am impressed. And just hit 4 minutes. Woah: that is certainly a way to kill someone...haha. Insane stuff.

Mark my man, I am mixing a drink for this one. Cheers from an upstater to a downstater! Amazing. I have nothing negative to say. I have nothing but positives.

Ok. Great job all around guys. Execution was really nice.

How did you like working with the HPX500 on this?

I liked the use of varied frame rates.

V.O. was nice and worked well for me.

Mark: Kudos for getting something in the fest that's actually a competing entry :)

My one and only technical beef. The ramp towards the end when he throws her off the couch... The 60fps comes through very strong visually and kinda throws me for a second out of things. Then the ramp comes through and it's all nice, though not as effective as it might have been had you started it during one of the falls or something. One, it would mask the 60fps early on before the ramp comes in. Two, the ramp might come across stronger visually if it were actually in the middle of a big movement, rather than the relatively static frame while he is on his knees. I'd love to see the moment he starts to get up to have it hit him, and watch him take a lonnngg fall to the floor.

Only reason I say it is b/c aesthetically the real time there looks like it was shot on home video before the ramp kicks in, if that makes sense :)

Maybe the best way to accomplish it would have been to have shot him throwing her down in 24p from one angle, and then cut to another angle as he begins his plunge from the couch and ramp it to the slomo right as he starts to make his exit.

Long way to describe such a little thing :)

Anyways, I'm glad you guys shared this.

Actress was real solid and her subtleties in the v.o. really helped the piece on the whole.

Actor was solid (phillip seymour hoffman looking one:) ). Had a great look, but not as strong dialog wise as the actress.

Only other thing I would say is that the audio at the 3:40 area looked a little weak.

Sorry if I'm nitpicking, but take it as a compliment.

I enjoyed this piece overall. It was well-thought, and well-executed. Felt slightly rushed which is counter to the overall vibe I feel we should be getting in context of the story with everything being slowed down... I might have preferred really taking your time exploring really minute details in more depth... Little things in the norm, but hugely detailed in this state of mind...

I'll shut up now

Thanks.

p.s... Mark, if the stars ever align, I'd love to act for you in one of your short films.

Later,
Jason

Thanks for all of this Jason.

And I think the two shots you suggest might be the only way to accomplish it. The thing I learned about time-remapping is that the shot has to be completely clean to pull it off. No motion blur. I had originally planned on stopping him mid air as he comes down, but there was too much blur to make it work.

Ideally next time I would like to get my hands on a high-speed camera. :)

thanks so much for taking the time to watch and comment so thoroughly.

And all you got to do is say the word. I can write something for you...:)

The really great thing about this short was collaborating with joe. We got to the point where we played well off one another. Like the song choice was his. And it fit the 60's tone I wanted so well, I could not have picked a better one myself. We got on the same wavelength. But also we have very different interests, so the boundaries of who is responsible for what were clear and easy to maintain.

but we gave each other a lot of feedback in the back and forth, the edit I did, the CC he did, etc. and we never once strangled one another. :)

I really loved this film, It kinda reminded me of my old days.... ahahah minus the killing of course. But really well done. Music was great.

:)

The first thing about RPDM is without a shadow of a doubt this:
very, very well shot. The scenes and closeups are astounding. I was going "wow".
Concept is great. I just really liked this one. Excellent job.

I must admit.... MArk told me how this story came about. all i have to say is Hooray for inspiration. great work man.

I love your movie! The love scenes are excellent. Keep them coming ;-) Your movie is one of the best movies in this fest.

Well if our movie punched you in the face, then your movie shived me with a sharpened spoon and took my genitals to eat.

Yeah? Our movie is nasty like that, it's true. Well...your movie spit in my food and told me to eat it with a smile. Believe me when I say--I did.

Definitely in my top 5!

I really enjoyed the style and presentation of this movie. It started great with some nice backstory to connect you to the characters and fill you in and then WHAM right into it.

The ending is fantastic and the overall script was great. Some of the best writing in this fest, no question.

I'd love to see more.

Totally amazing guys. Waiting to let everything sink in and get a good technical watching in before I make any real reviews but this is just fantastic. Amazing job of capturing that raw grit that is life. Very nice work.

Muthah!!!! I'm blown away guys. OMG this is a tight dark piece that completely rocks. Harris, this story was amazing and is the best use of 6 minutes I've seen so far. Are your slo-mo sequences twixtorized or warped? Really nicely done and very nicely acted by your total bitchin' lead actress. I'm gonna go back and search your thread regarding the sound track which is INCREDIBLE. Do you discuss getting the rights to the song anywhere? Damn that was Tarentinoesque in terms of the way "Spell on You" completely was magic in the context of the film. Harris, you are the man. Jayzus! Props all around for this one, which will definitely be contending for the top spot of the fest.
