Time Stacked - A Film by Kurt Jewell

Time Stacked - When you gotta pull an all nighter before finals. Kind of a Cinderella tale...only, not quite.

I'm in late on this one. Time Stacked has been fun, but it turned out more work than I bargained for. Too many special effects and not enough sleep. And then there is the music...I just threw the score together tonight. Next time I'm gonna find a musically inclined buddy somewhere and do that part right.

This film was an adventure and I learned a lot about the effects I used (which was the point for this one). Some turned out the way I wanted while others...well, you'll just have to see for yourself.

I did have fun and I thought my actors pulled off solid performances under my work-in-process directing.

Enjoy!!!

Screen shots showing the chroma blur and the fun I had keying:

Can see some of the chroma blurring on and around actor's face. And keying that little trinket was a royal pain in the behind.

Setup for cool sfx shot.

Holy cow, another one? Man you all are coming out of the woodwork. Welcome. I shot mine in Minn too, with a fellow DVXUser named Joe Johnson.

Yay Kurt! Glad to see you jumped in this one. Can't wait to see the SFX you've cooked up for this one. :)

Cool to hear MN making it's mark on the fest. We're not coming out of the woodwork though, we're swimming in those 10,000 lakes. It's been a wet year!

You used "Stacked" and "Cinderella" in the same line...perhaps you should post some pix...

Anybody else have lots of fun keying with DVX footage. I got pretty decent results, even though it was MiniDV footage. The color space issues were painfully obvious.

Anyone have comments about keying with HDV footage. I hear it still has some color space issues, but in theory it should be better just due to the higher resolution.

Night and day difference. Mark Sawicki discusses how they used the HVX200 to pull keys on a feature with very good results in his Special Effects book and we've keyed HVX footage very successfully dozens of times.

Our HVX keys have been extemely easy to pull.

The color space is 4:2:2 for HVX. That's gonna be better. Standard HDV is MPG2, so it is 4:2:0 color space. So in theory it wouldn't be much better than MiniDV, except for hte resolution.

I'd like to key HVX footage sometime, just to see for myself.

Most of the keys I have done with the HVX and After Effects Keylight in CS3 have been one click miraculous keys. I have been quite impressed. (Of course the lighting on set must be done well, but then the rest comes easy.

I used Keylight and AFter Effect 7.0. I agree about the lighting. I think I did a solid job with lighting, but it was still tough with miniDV.

I did tweak the settings a bit in keylight and finally got what I wanted for most shots.
