DVXUser Fest is bad for marriage...

Anyone else dealing with this?
Not exactly marriage, but trying to find time to date girls! Having to schedule dates around all of the shooting and editing, not to mention my normal job... I just may be doomed to wander the earth alone for the rest of time. Hmm... I guess I kinda feel like this guy:

Update: good news!

So yesterday was our last shoot for 'Aetas' and whilst stopping off to get supplies for the trip I had the foresight to buy my wife a pot of flowers, a romantic card and a box of candy. So then later that night (I rolled in around 1:30am after she was long asleep) I signed the card and put it all out on the kitchen table for her to discover (she gets up earlier than I do).

She was thrilled, getting misty eyed. Loved it. She then proceeded to give me a morning back massage and a home cooked breakfast.

Spa not needed :-).

I second the idea that having your wife/gf playing part in the production. It would make her feel useful and not complaining too much.

On my LoveFest shoot one of my actors was dressed up as a homeless man. A girl walked by us as we were filming...

ACTOR: You see that girl that just gave me a weird look?
ME: Yeah?
ACTOR: I asked her out last week and she said maybe. Do you think seeing me dressed as a homeless man hurt my chances at all?
ME: It's possible. But just in case you should dress like that on a date if you ever do go out with her.

Excellent work. I wish I had someone to give flowers to...:violin:

I turned down a very lucrative four-month gig last November because someone turned on the waterworks.

Now, I've got three school-age kids, so I can see her angle. Still, that four months would have made my entire year and then some. I would've missed her birthday and all of the kid's birthdays. The production offered to have me work three weeks (in Oregon), then home every fourth week. They would've paid all the airfares to boot.

You can imagine the conversations we had over this. Ultimately, I decided to stay home and take the April Fools Day feature instead of the reality series.

Ten years of marriage has taught me how to pick my battles. It's taught me that we're a team and that we make decisions based on that premise. Still, that money would have been really nice.

It's funny you know... I haven't really been to this part of the board, I must say this is an interesting point. I was getting that same treatment (GF getting upset when I don't call or show up).

What I do realize sometimes we push ourselves to get things done in one night (editing projects), when if we apply 2hrs a day to a given task /project we can actually get more done. I feel time is a factor, but we can make better use of it most of the time.

Yea family is more important, and I'm learning that all over again. It is easy to get caught up in moving forwarding in this industry, but in the end if we aren't happy it all means nothing.

As far as I'm concerned those who love and care about us (not all family does) is what keeps us together, and in the end it's all you have. When we are sick and in-capable only those that care for us will be there.

Money is nice but family is far more important.

Wise wise words. I remember when I was little my dad had a client in Mexico that required very little of him actually being there. One of the few weekends he had to go was my 8 yr old sisters (at the time) dance recital and even though she said it was ok that he wouldnt be there, he knew better and the meeting mysteriously got moved to a different weekend... I didnt find out what really happened til recently.

My wife is awesome. I couldn't do this without her.
-especially since she's one of only three actors in our entry.

I made the wife holding the mic boom. So she´s involved and I can tell her to shut up when the red light comes up.

Priceless!
