Why don't you just get the dimensions down to 640 wide?

I've found the Quicktime's compression gives the entire film a 'washy' look and destroys all the colors. Anyone else have the same issue? Sorensen Squeeze seems to do a better job using sorensen 3.

I wish there was a 'budget' option in there that you could specify.. I want a video this size, at this compression at these dimensions.. Go figure. That would be too easy.

I agree... if you do not get your film entered into the fest just because you can't compress the film, I'm going to take that glyde cam of yours and beat you over the head after Mark Harris beats you with your red camera.

Yeah, we had issues with the QT Export washing out colors. Joe worked it out, and it was an FCP thing. BUt he had to tweak some things in the output to get it to look right.
 
Don't blame the Hypercam! Beat him with just the Red! :grin:

Seriously, thanks for the help guys. It is suggestions from those who know this stuff that will help him get it right. I am sure Matt will work it out. :thumbsup: Keep the suggestions coming.
 
I had these troubles before coming out of a NLE but I have never had the washing out problem with Quicktime pro exports. I am still testing compression. What do all you compression gurus do for kickin sound that doesn't take up 12 mb of the total? If I am at 24khz I can get a decent sized compression (48mb) but if I bump the audio to 48khz glory, My file size goes to 62 mb. Is there an audio codec that is kickin but smaller?

700kb/sec in H264 isn't horrible actually...

Try decreasing screen size, and keep the same kb/sec.
 
Send Forsman a PM. I believe that dude is one of the best with compression recipes and, besides, he's had way too much time on his hands to be cranking out posters for Harris and us.

Haha! Thanks to all of you for the suggestions! I will be attempting more compression testing today. Some of the new tricks I learned may come in handy. I'll let you know how it goes.

Oh, and I plan to be completely finished with PUSH at Midnight tonight. We will see how it goes. If I wait any longer, I will become a pumpkin.:huh:

Whoooooooooo Hooooooooo! I just got off the phone with Matt and he solved his problem, is finishing his sound tonight, will be done with the render tomorrow and will have the film IN THE FEST! :kali: YAY! :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)
 
I have only recently gotten a chance to go around and check out a lot of the movies in this fest- your grabs are nice man!

Not completely correct, but appreciated. Sound is done, and we HOPE VFX finish rendering without a crash or such so Push can be finished tonight. Please oh computer...be merciful to my weary sleep deprived eyes!!!! My compression issues are solved and once the amazingly long render (15 minues a FRAME) finishes....I can finish Push. Props to Mark for some sweet CGI goin on. That boy gotz mad skillz....:violent5:
 
Matt, why don't you offload some of that insane rendering to a render farm? We're using TitanRENDER (http://www.rendertitan.com) and have been really happy. They're cheap and they have a huge pipe so that if you've got a decent connection you're all set. They've got a huge bank of 64-bit 8-cores that will shred anything you can send 'em.

I'd hate to see you miss the festival deadline simply because of a render delay.
