I have a lot of footage on my ext. hard drive and I was wondering is there a way to put the p2 folders back onto the p2 card?

I need to put it back on the p2 card, so I can give it to my friend so he can import onto his FCP.

is this possible?

thanks !!!

Steve, are you a Windows user? If so, then you only have the MXF files, in which case: why not just copy those onto an external hard disk and hand those to your FCP friend? As long as you use a FAT32 hard disk it'll be compatible.

Or, if you're a Windows user, just copy the files to the P2 card. Windows sees the P2 card as any regular storage device.

If you're a Mac user and you want to get MXF files back onto a P2 card, I think you can do that through P2CMS.

If you are both Mac users, then you go use Raylight to build a p2 card.

But if this is purely for editing, again I suggest that having the MXF files doesn't offer any material advantages.

But your statement about "a lot of footage on my ext. hard drive" is a little non specific.

In what format is that footage? And again, as Barry asks, what platform are you on?

Hey,

I'm a window user and I cut on Vegas.

My friends final cut pro only can read the converted mxf files through the FCP Panasonic P2 import.(which converts them to Quicktime.)

we have hooked up my ext. harddrive to his computer and it doesn't work for importing the mxf files.

Use a FAT32 external hard disk, and copy over the complete directory structure (i.e., the entire CONTENTS directory, not individual MXF files) and it will work.

You only need to use FAT32 if you want to write back to the drive -- the Mac can access NTFS volumes in read-only mode.
